Whisky Reviews for Bunnahabhain 2003

6 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 90.04 points

  1. Archer scored this whisky 90 points Connoisseur

A more than successful finish. The very fact that he delivers not only the "pleasant" sherry notes but also bulkier aromas such as cellar miller and fermented grapes makes him a really good and exciting whisky.
    • Nose
Immediately there is a rich sherry bouquet in the nose: heavy and full, raisins, leather, tobacco. Fermented grapes with a slightly sour taste. Earthy, loamy, damp forest soil. Nougat chocolate, marzipan, cinnamon & coriander.
    • Taste
Creamy and "solid", undiluted not too vigorous. On the tongue, too, he shows himself sherry-stressed, but in a balanced and unadorned manner. Raisins and dried figs, curry powder, turmeric, cinnamon, coriander. Mashed redcurrants. Milk coffee, fine-sour chocolate, bitter honey. Increasing wood note. Feels pleasant on the tongue, envelops it with flavors, fills out the entire mouth. Something musty cellar with damp wooden shelves.
    • Finish
Long and dry, with a good portion of wood, raisins, tart spices and dark chocolate.

Oily, full bodied, sweet, liquorice and long.

  3. spigray scored this whisky 91 points Connoisseur

No proper notes, I tasted it in the distillery shop. It´s not as good as the sauternes cask finish but that´s almost impossible. Great balance, well integrated sherry, medium sweet, slightly salty. Very good

    • Nose
      90 90
      Voluminous, Full, Rich
      Distinct barrel aroma, sherry
... the fruit comes over time, even dry fruits ...
Dried orange peel, light scent of spices
      Alcohol is noticeable ...
He has a bit of a dirty, coastal whisky with character
    • Taste
      89 89
      Strong start!
      Sweet, creamy and herbal ....
      What a start!
Slight bitterness on the barrel, nice spiciness, liquorice, licorice
Wet wood planks, flint, burnt raisins
    • Finish
      87 87
Long, slightly bitter, spicy and pleasantly mild towards the end

  5. Kantenmechaniker scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

I had high expectations that were not 100% fulfilled. Nevertheless, a good whisky, which I probably would not buy with but for the price called.

the first note that I can take, and that took a while, is marzipan, then quite clear, almonds, slight sweetness, but also acidity, light roasted aromas, a little yogurt, the roasted aromas become more dominant over time, as well Milk chocolate, after the first sip, fresher, clear raspberry
    • Taste
      89 89
oily, creamy, sweet, roasted aromas, walnut, white chocolate ganache, red fruit, light acidity, tingling, some caramel, tobacco, slightly dirty, medicinal, light towards iodine, sounds worse than it is, but I miss the better one paraphrase
    • Finish
      87 87
burned caramel, almond, marzipan, fruit bowl, raspberry, slightly metallic, warming, medium-long

  6. daverdaz scored this whisky 92 points Expert Junior

Very sweet, notes of nuts and Toffee Fudge.
