    A more than successful finish. It is precisely the fact that, in addition to the "pleasant" sherry notes, it also provides somewhat bulky aromas such as cellar todder and fermented grapes, makes it a really good and exciting whisky.

      Immediately there is a rich sherry bouquet on the nose: heavy and full, raisins, leather, tobacco. Fermented grapes with a slightly sour note. Earthy, loamy, moist forest soil. Nougat chocolate, marzipan, cinnamon & coriander.
    • Taste

      Creamy and "firm", undiluted, not too violent acceleration. It is also sherry-emphasized on the tongue, but in a balanced and not fake way. Raisins and dried figs, curry powder, turmeric, cinnamon, coriander. Crushed currants. Milky coffee, fine tart chocolate, tart honey. Increasing wood note. Lays comfortably on the tongue, envelops it with aromas, fills the entire mouth. Somewhat musty cellar with damp wooden shelves.

      Long and dry, with a good portion of wood, raisins, slightly dry spices and dark chocolate.

      A bit sulphurous to start with, followed by dried red dates, mud, red beans and some dark chocolate. Roast beef, a pinch of crushed black pepper, a few drops of brine, and campfire grilled fish. Before long, sugar-coated peanuts emerged, M&M's, dried figs, freeze-dried apples, fruit leaves and girls' cosmetics.

      Diluted cheap chocolate, black pepper and caramel with a bit of sweet red bean paste. Even water couldn't help the punchiness and lack of flavours.

      Nice syrup with mung bean and chestnut paste. Over-boiled soft peanuts, digestive biscuits, a bit of moss, bamboo and preserved potherb mustard.

    An all-round successful Bunna, which unfortunately has too little importance. Mainly because it is currently available at the original price from the distilleries. Absolute insider tip

      Peach, hay, some pepper, light sea breeze. Maybe a hint of sage. Delicious - very soft in the mind not too dry

      Cigar, fruit sweet stays in the mouth for a long time. A slight tingling sensation on the tip of the tongue. Simply a great whisky

    Salted caramel and a nutty sweet profile mixed with chocolate dark fruits and raisins. This is good and yet another finished Bunnahabhain that is worth searching out.

    With a color like dark amber, the Bunnahabhain lies in the glass. A two-year finish in an Amontillado Sherry Hogshead arouses curiosity and I'm excited to see what this sample will offer me.

    In the nose I immediately have a very pleasant spicy sweetness and fruitiness. Sweet dates, raisins, plum jam, boiled dark fruits and the sour freshness of currants and lemon zest combine with marzipan, maple syrup and chocolate. The chocolate moves more in the whole milk than in the dark area. This aroma game is accompanied by a strong spiciness and herbs. Cinnamon, roasted hazelnuts and a hint of leather, tobacco and forest floor complete the aromas. A great nose, I really have to say that!

    In the mouth with a strong start, a peppery taste and a little ginger heat ... in addition a more subtle sweetness and fruitiness than in the nose, which spread in the mouth and combine wonderfully with the spiciness. The tannins on tap have an astringent effect, the whole milk chocolate now becomes darker and merges into the dark area. Leather, tobacco, damp forest floor and a hint of salt provide a great counterpoint to the sweetness and fruitiness. The whisky is convincing on the palate, but not as exciting as the aroma when smelling.

    The finish is spicy with black pepper, some licorice, dark chocolate that tends towards coffee, raisins and chewed walnuts. Everything was drizzled with a little honey and sprinkled with a few crumbs of salt. Leather, old furniture and a little moldy forest floor are noticeable. This slightly moldy note bothers me a little. I would describe the finish as medium to long. The tannins in particular stay in the mouth a little longer. A very dry mouthfeel ... if you don't like that, you won't be thrilled here.

    In total there are 88/100 points from me. A great whisky that for the most part fully met my expectations. The musty note in the finish bothers me. Although this is very subtle, it ensures that I cannot give 89 points in total.

    a strong flavor whisky
    that's fun

    something to whine on a high level:
    slight weaknesses in the mouth (at times alcoholic note)
    the playing of the notes is slightly bumpy
    and the sherry barrel is a little too dominant

    In tribute to/honour of Wayne’s father.

    N: This starts with a ‘sherry-ish’ toasty [eggy bready] pongy beautifully firm & salty melding biscuity blissful sweetness with a farmy/ppm hint, rum & sausages, chocolate,.. The oak, malt & cask combo sweetness is simply divine.

    T: it’s so very reminiscent of actual sherry on arrival, but only initially. Furthermore, being astringent/closed, this one needs plenty of time to open up. After time has passed: intensely salty and malty with an acute salty [again] citrus-savoury-sweet bite, savoury-sweet malty [again] > milky chocolate. And then, a herbal sweet mouthfeel slick develops, and boy, is it desirable! It’s a totally different ball game now.

    F: Dips quick but then lingers, possessing something of a grand [echoe-y] maturity about it, yet with all that vibrancy and a tasty 15yo Glen Scotia-esque oakiness to boot. That amontillado influence works a treat.

    C: Strong yet subtle with development after development in the glass, and that slick mouthfeel a game-changer. This’ll only get better in the bottle. What a cracker. Best to my friend.

    great impact of sherry cask , heavy leather, tobacco notes, combined with the smell of a wet cellar, cherries in dark chocolate, you can also smell nuts, fermented apples, coffee


    oily, a combination of the powerful fruitiness of a good sherry bomb, with some salty sea notes, moist wood, wet leaves, cherries, tobacco, in the background you can feel slightly rotten fruit (like in Tobermory from the 90s sherry casks)


    medium long, slightly peppery at first, sparkling, with time goes in a more sweet and sour direction


    A really good Bunnahabhain finished in Amontillado sherry cask - 90/100

    Not a cheap one, but the best of what I tried in the Distillery shop during feis ile... So I had to take a bottle. Complex nutty aroma... Worth trying :)

    No proper notes, I tasted it in the distillery shop. It´s not as good as the sauternes cask finish but that´s almost impossible. Great balance, well integrated sherry, medium sweet, slightly salty. Very good
