Freshly uncorked, there is strong dominant smoke (less phenolic-medical than more smoked ham) with a lot of oak and spice, but also sherry, vanilla and sweet notes. Powerful and oily at the same time. Very long finish with a clearer sherry sweetness. 10 gtt water to 30 ml open the sweet and the sherry notes, making it a little creamier and smoother.
After four weeks in the open bottle, it rounds off clearly, takes a very positive development, the sherry notes and the mild bourbon vanilla / sweetness come to the fore more and more.
Overall, very nice, tart, smoky sweetness with oak, vanilla and liquorice.
To feel and differentiate the effects of the three barrel types. As a result, a separate, individually designed Islay malt that stands out from other Laphroaig.
I like Quarter Cask and PX Cask better
