Tried blind from a whisky advent calendar that my good friend put together for me!
Color: Light Amber
Nose: Lots of rich sherry fruits, oily lemons, orange peel, raisins, cinnamon toast, creamy caramel, vanilla bean, sliced ginger, worn tobacco leaf and cocoa dust
Taste: Creamy caramels and dark chocolate along with salty plums, ginger cream, olive oil, tobacco, worn leather, sultanas, dry blackcurrants and roasted walnuts
Finish: Medium with more ginger cream, red plums and walnut cream
Reminds me a lot of sherry cask Deanston and Glen Garioch. Lots of good creamy and oily character but its definitely young as it carries a bit of heat but also some solid complexity with a more dense and earthy style of sherry cask influence. Overall, it's quite good and definitely a step up from an older batch I had a year and a half ago. At the right price I'd probably buy a bottle.
