This seems stronger than 43%, pretty good for sure.
    • Nose
      88 88
Smells spicy at first, with faint lemon zest, wafer, a little grapefruit and a cereal note
    • Taste
      91 91
Peppery, faint peat but then a wave of cream followed by more peppery the cream and peat then join forces to be the dominant flavours. The palate is ever so thin but actually as you go on the flavour seems to increase

Very attractive and complex nose, with orange eucalyptus, honey lemon and salted rosemary on the nose. Candied oranges build on the palate with plenty of wax and a hint of coal ash creeping into the finish.

  6. Baanaanaabob scored this whisky 92 points Connoisseur

Very fruity, stone fruits yellow fruits exotic fruits, superbly balanced, delicious

  7. WhiskyU scored this whisky 89 points Expert Senior

We tried this head to head with a few other 60s and 70s Springers and it was the clear loser. Not a bad whisky at all but just not as stellar as others

  8. Helgo scored this whisky 91 points Connoisseur

A fully intense and balanced Springbank - which even with the weak 43% - perfectly transported the flavors. The 37 years old you notice immediately. I do not even notice the sherry. Initially, it could really be an ex-bourbon maturation for me. It seems so juicy full and the oranges and apricots are seductive. In the mouth then a true explosion of taste with plenty of milk chocolate, almonds, moist tobacco, some bitterness of the oak and again and again juice oranges. Truly deep, intense and perfectly tuned. The finish is long, very long and pleasantly warming with a pinch of orange jelly towards the end.

An unusually fruity and therefore very special Springbank. I love it!
    • Nose
Yes! Juicy, fruity .... orange peel and a wonderful apricot. Crepe Suzette! Very balanced and above all very fruity for a Springbank.
    • Taste
The fruit is now joined by tobacco, chocolate and a bit of bitterness from the oak. Everything very round and balanced. Just perfect!
    • Finish
Long finish, round and gentle again.

A very, very mild and fruity expression for a 37yo Springbank - very drinkable and highly enjoyable - excellent!
    • Nose
Honey, dried fruits, apricots, sticky sweetness, something malty - I all agree with the other comments made so far - very promising
    • Taste
Very oily, creamy, fruity, dried fruits again, apricots, oranges, passion fruits, mango and black pepper, subtle oak wood, nice sweetness - very good
    • Finish
      Medium long, warm, smooth

    • Nose
A thick intense fruitiness. Dried apricot, honey, mango, vanilla, white chocolate, pineapple, banana and a little galia melon. Later orange. Typical 70s Springbank perfection.
    • Taste
Apricot, pineapple, mango, honey, marzipan, vanilla, peat, kiwi, pepper, hazelnut, leather, toffee and banana. With water more honey but also more spice. Great complexity.
    • Finish
Apricot, litchi, vanilla, white chocolate, banana, chestnut and spice.

Wow, what a grenade! The fruity, floral and fresh nose is phenomenal. The taste of the Springbank burns a real fireworks. The bitter finish harmonizes with the taste and the nose. A great drop, I like it very much!
    • Nose
Gold amber shines out of the glass. The Springbank runs slowly and heavily back into the glass after panning. Creamy and oily, the individual drops run down the glass wall. A wonderful sight.

A wonderful fruit aroma unfolds. A touch of orange and lemon vying for my favor and combine very pleasant with fine sherry aromas and a hint of peppermint. The nose is extremely fresh and fruity. Sweet vanilla joins in, the alcohol starts very easy to tickle in the nose. A touch of furniture polish hovers over the fruity nose.
    • Taste
The first impression: fresh and cool. The fruity freshness soon becomes sour and slightly bitter. Juniper berries and furniture polish follow, it dominates spicy oak. The fruit is almost imperceptible. The second sip: A pinch of salt and a hint of pepper suddenly explodes in my mouth. Again pleasantly bitter and spicy oak. Sweet vanilla comes to the fore and ends in a fine nut flavor. The drops are still slowly returning to the glass.
    • Finish
Spices! Which one I can not define exactly. Bitter oak exudes a wonderfully supple warmth. Again this great freshness. The freshness suddenly fires a load of salt and pepper into my palate. Pleasant sharpness and fresh walnut is created.

Wow, what a fresh nose after all these years in the barrel. Green and fully ripe fruit in the mix, minty freshness with a fine juniper note, in contrast to light notes of furniture polish. Wonderfully balanced and harmonious in the nose, 92 pt ..
In the mouth then the minty furniture polish reinforced. Slight hint of smoke, slightly salty note, gentle but noticeable oak from the sherry barrel, while the sherry is not noticeable, which does not detract from the whisky. 89 pts ..
Softly fading finish u. drying with slight ginger note, unfortunately a bit short. 88 pts ..
total: purely arithmetically scarce 90 pts, but felt rather 91 than 90 pts .. As a spring bank I would have blindly not recognized him, too pronounced the floral-fruity aromas. But definitely a great dram I had there today in the glass, Thanks to wb70!

I like it a lot, but I need a lot of time in the glass
    • Nose
rich sherry note, floral, a slightly salty touch of sea breeze, toffe
    • Taste
rich, spicy, notes of sherry, biscuit, spices, oak
    • Finish
      long, slightly floral, spicy

  21. Tom na Gruagaich scored this whisky 90 points Connoisseur

An unusual Springbank, which I think has lost the typical Springbank notes to the barrel over time. The sherry barrel is barely noticeable, which does not detract from the Gebuss. A nice old whisky.
    • Nose
Sweet, very intense fruit, rather cooked fruit, multivitamin juice and dried apricots, honey and a clear touch of sweet oak, but also slightly dusty, like the wooden floorboards in a warm loft. Over time, I still hear carnations and the whisky is sweeter and spicier.
    • Taste
very fresh, slightly sparkling, the oak is noticeable right from the start, slightly dusty with vanilla and a nice, but distinct bitterness. The alcohol is present, but not particularly disturbing. Over time, some honey develops, otherwise a lot of delicious oak.
    • Finish
The oak and the carnation are quite present. The former leaves vanilla and a slight bitterness, the latter adds a soft but clearly perceptible sharpness that can not stem from alcohol. A little bit of salt and honey, otherwise the oak leaves the dominant aroma, but probably dosed.

for 37 years sherry barrel amazingly bright
very well balanced ... the sherry barrel does not overlay the other flavors
the flavors in the nose are the best .. a Schnuffel whisky
the taste can not keep up and the finish is a bit too short
    but still an excellent whisky
    • Nose
      a very nice nose
      sweet yellow fruits, mirabelle plums
      dried apples Caramel and vanilla
Fruit, oak, ripeness, spices ... everything fits together perfectly, the aromas harmonize wonderfully
    • Taste
      sweet yellow fruits
after the sweetness takes over the oak
Apple-nut cake sprinkled with sugar-cinnamon, more sugar than cinnamon
      Walnut and milk chocolate
    • Finish
      subtle fruity sweetness and hazelnut

    a very nice whisky
in elements he is strongly reminiscent of a Brora
    even more intense overall
    pity is the slight alcohol
Unfortunately, he leaves behind in the finish
can not compete with nose and mouth
    a pity
Mouth and nose good 90 points

      yellow cherries
the Waldmeister note gets stronger and a little spicier
      vanilla potash

      very tasty and balanced nose
    • Taste
nutty spicy on the nose with light fruity notes
      cool woodruff
      hot vanilla
on the palate sugar crystals from the wood
      a slight alcohol note
    • Finish

      wood notes

Surprisingly fresh for 37 years. Lots of bloomy and herbal aromas. My memory takes me back to the smell of aniseed candy on the christmas market. Really nice.

All in all a very complex, mature whisky that obviously requires quite some time and attention to fully reveal its beautiful character.
