Glengoyne is that beautiful distillery – I visited them in 2011 if memory serves, what a visit that was! – that lies on the border between the Lowlands and the Highlands. The stillhouse is in the Highlands while the warehouses are across the motorway that forms the imaginary border, meaning that the casks mature in the Lowlands. Anyway… today I’ll try a 12 year old single cask that was bottled by Berry Bros & Rudd for Germany. It’s a bourbon casks, which is not very common for Glengoyne.
Wonderfully fresh, candy-like and floral nose on vanilla, honey, buttercups and pineapple in its own juice. In my mind’s eye I get an images of an open field with luscious green grass, filled with yellow and purple flowers. Spring in the glass!
Nicely creamy on the plate. And very sweet. Sweetened butter, vanilla, lots of citrus and apples, while fresh ginger and white pepper season it somewhat. Fairly simple, but pleasant. Good strength by the way. Does not need any water.
The finish turn a tad more fruity. While the pepper slowly fades, I get some extra banana and kiwi on top of the apples and pineapple. Nice!
Deutsche Freunde, du hast Glück, for this is a lovely malt.
- IB bourbon Glengoyne ?! Wow. Absolutely good without sherry.
Floral. Yellow fruits, honey, vanilla and spicy oak.
Powerful and creamy. Citruses, waxy green apple, milk caramel, ginger and white pepper.
Long, fruity, spicy.
- Young, powerful, cotton candy sweetie. There is plenty of fun with water addition.
