Everything is expensive in Japan – land, grains, etc. Cost must be a consideration when rating a whisky. The average value for this whisky is USD $114. If I had paid this amount for this very young whisky, I would be rating it quite a bit lower. Having paid USD $40 for it, I can be more forgiving of its shortcomings. It does have a rubbery note but, this can be
greatly diminished with a few drops of water to an inoffensive state.

For me this whisky have a rubbery off-note that really puts me off. This is my personal opinion. Some people may like this, but for me this whisky is a no go. I was not able to finish this dram.

Appearance: Darker than the others. Medium orange amber.

Nose: Tons of iodine and diesel fuel. Smoky, but not huge on the campfire. It’s precisely the kind of peat I generally avoid. A bit of malt. Not much else.

Palate: Touch of wood, bit more campfire, diesel fumes, iodine, medicine chest. Very peaty and very raw. This needs way more time to mellow.

Finish: Iodine honey, vanilla submerged in diesel.

With Water: Slightly more smoky and wood. Definitely helps tame the fumes.

Overall: This is way too peated to be enjoyed this young. I find almost no cask influence, and the peat is 100% medicinal, not of the Highland type at all. It’s hard work. Hopefully it will age well. Hope they have good casks.
