Smells young -- almost like a Caol Ila 2000, with the young, raw peat (ie it's not very impressive thus far). Young, raw vegetal peat is not my favorite whisky profile. Let's give it some time, shall we? This certainly ain't cheap, and I want to make sure I gave it a fair shake!
With time (5-10 min), some depth and elegance, finally! It becomes less raw and some shy fruits come out -- apples, pear, pineapples, all subtle. With time, woah!! -- Tiger Balm!?!? Methinks it's time to taste this...
Just like the Cadenhead and the other GM CC, very peaty and powerful. Wakes up all the senses. Wave after wave of rounded peat, rolling around in your palate. The flavors don't hit the highest notes though, like the other two Caol Ila. Not very complex. Almost feel like there is young very young Caol Ila mixed in with the older Caol Ila. Not bad.
Super lengthy, but I can't help but feel disappointed. I want to give it a 90 points, but can't be that generous, sorry. For comparison purposes, the Cadenhead was a 93 pointer and the TWE GM CC 60.2% was 92 points.
