Whisky Reviews for William Penn American Blended Whiskey

  1. MaltMartin scored this whisky 75 points Connoisseur

American blended whiskies always contain a lot of Neutral Grain Spirit (NGS). NGS is very present in this old blended whiskey from Hiram Walker's premises in Peoria, Illinois (which used to be one of the largest whisk(e)y production facilities in the world, in the 1960's/1970's).
    • Nose
Lots of grainy notes of cereal and draff. Sawdust and fresh pencil shavings. Light flowery bouquet. Contrary to single grains this whiskey lacks the sweetness of coconut and bananas.
    • Taste
Not much going here. Soft maltiness with cinnamon and candied ginger. Barley sugar. Anise and fennel seed. A little nuttiness as well. Some metalic notes at the background.
    • Finish
Short. Clove and liquorice at the end. Easy drinkable, but no complexity at all. Seems perfect for making cocktails.
