The Islay just kills, but I’ve never tried the ‘Sherry Cask’, so now’s the time. I’m a fan of what they do at BB&R’s, they have this kind of understated, slightly posh way of doing things that should inspire many loudmouths from all around the world. Even politicians who don’t drink! Colour: deep amber. Nose: concrete and saltpetre at first, then roasted pine nuts, chestnuts, and a blend of well-roasted coffee beans and chocolate pods that have just been torrefied. A very pleasant proposition, not very common. Mouth: but yes! More coffee, orangettes, thin mints, 90% chocolate, dried dates and figs, coffee liqueur (I’ve decided to take it easy with quoting brands), and touches of tarry black liquorice from some of the most extreme Dutch liquorice makers. But yes! Finish: long, superb, extremely well-constructed, chocolaty and coffeeish, with the most perfect balance. Comments: wow, have they added some 1940s Glenlivet or something? At not even 50€, bang-for-your-euro, guaranteed. Genius.

Seeing some notes just makes me laugh...

For the price, you can sometimes get it for less than 35 euros, a very good sherry bomb. Despite the 44.2%, tolerates a little water (not too much) to decipher the aromas.

Sherry (PX and / or Oloroso), dried fruits, roasted shell, gingerbread, a little cocoa and honey, return of dried fruits on the date there very sweet, a little dust that emerges and nuts dusty dryer.
It's creamy, a little orange zest, dry oak, dark chocolate, towards strong coffee, the smell when it is hot, a little zan too, a little bitter, more gingerbread buttered and honeyed, toasted walnuts and raisins
medium to almost long length, tenacious in fact, monolithic but lingering on raisins, cocoa and a toasty back!

very beautiful and multi-faceted sherry "bomb" in the nose, which does not seem overly sweet. It looks like a 12 or 15 year old malt.
The taste then expresses more the youth with a ginger heat and spices. It ends for a very long time with a pleasant hazelnut note.
For the price you get a Glendronach 12, which has a similar sherry aroma (at least in the nose). The GD has an age statement, this one not.
If you can hide that and don't need the year on the label, this is an extremely tasty variant of a well-made sherry whiskey.
[90 - 86 = extremely tasty -> get a second bottle, don't look at the prize], with the PLV entitled - even without information on age.

good sherry influence through and through: red dried fruits, raisins, figs, dates - but not as sweet as cardboard.
The sweetness comes more from the corner of vanilla, caramel, honey and a bit of brown sugar, which also show their influence.
After that, nut flavors (especially almond and hazelnut for me) appear, which also bring a whole milk-chocolate moment with them.
      Over time, Christmas spices too.
    • Taste

Very soft start, but the spices penetrate the tongue quite quickly, it becomes peppery for a moment and also runs down the esophagus with a certain warmth.
There is not much fruit on the first sip, but the mouth becomes quite dry.
Nut flavors emerge again and bring a slightly tart note (espresso or dark chocolate type) with them, but without drifting into bitterness.
Second sip: it is now clearly fruity, sweeter and creamy and oily.
But the spices are right back and bring a ginger sharpness with them that tickles on the palate.
    • Finish
      86 86
about medium length, influence of dried fruit.
The nut aroma shows more walnut (skin) and tart notes (dark chocolate with a high cocoa content).
This then turns into an (unripe) hazelnut, and it stays in the mouth for a long time.
