  1. Maltimex scored this whisky 88 points Expert Junior

Tasty Malt, which clearly differs from the first batch and hopefully can keep its level in the future! For example, the 12-year-old GlenDronach has no chance against this GlanAllachie due to the new barrel composition or the apparently higher sherry barrel portion.
    • Nose
      87 87
Significantly similar to the first batch (08.06.18). Beautiful honey sweetness and tropical fruits with a well-integrated alcohol. Add a light touch of blackcurrant jelly with a touch of cinnamon - which I did not have in the first batch. The lighter vanilla and pear notes as well as the butter biscuits from the first batch are also present, but less strong. For this, a little more oak has an effect here.
    • Taste
      88 88
Clearly different - yes. Strong, spicy (slightly oaky) and creamy, the malt comes on the tongue. The 46 percent are excellent. Raisins and a hint of dried dates follow; also reminds me of plum cake - yes, with cinnamon. The malt with its sweet and sour notes stimulates the salivation. A hint of pear also joins in the mouth.
    • Finish
      88 88
Compared to other malts quite long - no comparison to GlenDronach 12, which has since become very flat - better! In the finish, the malt on the tongue is dry and spicy (balanced and not overloaded with wood!). The rose notes can also hold. Drinkable? Yes!

The perfect example that a good whisky shouldn't be expensive

Pear, vanilla, milk chocolate .... very tasty

this was the bottle that got me back into scotch

  5. LDB scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

It has such a light grain note and actually old bottle flavor, which I like e.g. B. like the (vintage) Chivas Regal. Amazing, the GA 12 tastes (at least in this version) better than I thought, although of course it is not a flavor monster.

  6. KB201 scored this whisky 84 points Connoisseur

    Well done.
    • Nose
A wood note paired with a lovely sherry note.
    • Taste
Honey, marzipan and bananas. Followed by butterscotch and raisins with a hint of mocha.
    • Finish
      Nice, rather long finish.

  7. Saftkenner scored this whisky 84 points Expert Senior

After a rather disappointing nose, the palate impresses with a powerful start and beautiful, tropical fruits.
    • Nose
      81 81
Dominant alcohol, citrus fruits, toffee. Red berries, vanilla, light oak, pear. With a little time and increasing warmth, the nose becomes a little more harmonious.
    • Taste
      85 85
Strong, peppery start. Relatively thin body at first, but then slightly stimulates the flow of saliva. First nice tropical fruits: mango, papaya, passion fruit. Honey, heather, toffee, light oak, pear.
    • Finish
      85 85
Short but quite pleasant finish. Vanilla, toffee and tropical fruit wine gums.

  8. DulischM scored this whisky 83 points Expert Senior

In the nose a very nice strong sweetness of dried fruits, which unfortunately is missing in the mouth. Still a delicious whisky with a great PLV.
    • Nose
A very strong sweetness with notes of syrup, (heather) honey and dead nettle nectar. There are also dried berries and fruits such as raisins and figs and some currants and cranberry. Flowery clover and heather aromas are also recognizable, over time a sweet spiciness appears that is reminiscent of cocoa and dark chocolate.
    • Taste
It's not quite as sweet in the mouth, just some raisins and syrup. A dry, spicy dark chocolate dominates here.
    • Finish
The finish is again slightly sweet and syrupy with a dry spice.

Well, a lot is allready written down about this one, so i'll keep it short. This is an outstanding 12 year old, lot's of flavours, some complexity and a remarkable finish. Compared to other regular 12 year olds the value for money balance for this one is absolutely good!

A decent malt for the price and age. Not more but also not less. It's good to drink, but I don't need a bottle of it.

Palate: Sweet and candy-like, butterscotch, banana, pineapple, coconut.

    Finish: Long, peppery.

    All this for 40 euro?
A complex whisky that tells a story. On the nose: raisins, sweet vanilla cake, walnuts. A bit oily in taste, bitter sweet. The finish gives more cake associations with a hint of burned cake bottom straight from the oven.

Recently bought some single cask bottles from this distillery. But how to compare and rate these if you are not familiar with the core range of Glenallachie? So I took part on the range share on the Dutch Whiksyforum. This 12 y old was the first in line.

Conclusion: I like it. Pretty good BFYB. Can quality wise compete with the likes of Springbank 10, Bunna 12, Kilkerran 12.
    • Nose
      87 87
Powerful nose at this age and "only" 46% abv. Lots of sweetness, vanilla and tropical fruits.
    • Taste
      87 87
Full bodied. Bid oily and thick. Herbal notes compete with the sweetness which was already there in the nose.
    • Finish
      85 85
Maybe due to the medium length the weakest of the 3. More spicy than sweet in the aftertaste.

A decent quaffing dram - not badly priced.
    • Nose
      Stewed fruit apple and rhubarb.
    • Taste
      Quite sweet, honey notes.
    • Finish
      Some spice, recent length.

Very nice standard with a very good price-performance ratio, very successful
    • Nose
      85 85
Unripe banana, cooked sweet dark fruits, very elegant
    • Taste
      84 84
Nice sherry notes, spicy but also tannic wood notes (probably due to the Virgin Oak), strong body
    • Finish
      84 84
Long, warm finish, full-bodied, sweet and strong spices

  26. RobbievdB scored this whisky 86 points Expert Senior

This Glenallachie is probably one of the best, if not the best, 12 yo in any standard range. Tasty, quite complex and full bodied. It’s strong on sweet fruits, gummy bears, some virgin oak spices but never to dominant. Really good vatting of barrels and absolute buy recommendation at this price point.

Room temperature when drinking: 20 ℃

Viewing Eyes: light golden smell Nose: waxy texture, extremely oily, slightly sticky, thick floral and fruity, succulent and yellow fruits, jackfruit, banana, yellow peach, some malt and chile Heart, fermented dough, at the end, there are obvious walnut cracks on the surface with dry cracks, the surface is sprinkled with sugar, and the smell is very meaty. Palate: medium acidity, bitter taste cracked, alcohol is more irritating, and peat at the end is wrapped in quick lime.
Finish: Finish, Chinese angelica, American ginseng, wood odor of Chinese medicine, dried walnut oat skin skin Body: soft, with a certain thickness, no tannin, bitter bottom standing in the C position

  32. Thermidor scored this whisky 82 points Connoisseur

I understand the triple wood approach adds complexity to this malt, but somehow I think the various tastes make it a bit too noisy and dissonant for me. My score reflects the fact that I prefer this to many entry level core range products, but like for example Caol Ila 12 and Laphroaig 10 just a point or two more.
    • Nose
The same kind of youthful greasiness I sometimes find in current HP12. PX-like sweetness, and some nondescript fruitiness. Winegums. On the plus side, it's not a vanilla bomb, but there's something a bit dirty about its smoke. Some perfume that reminds me of Four Roses. Is that the new wood's caress?
    • Taste
The peat comes in first. Not particularly rough, but there's more of it than in your average Spey for example. Some cheap chocolate marmalade candy, used clothes, and a Loch Lomond-like metallic note (although not as loud). The supermarket chocolate thing keeps coming back. I'm not entirely convinced by this punch bowl approach to casking, but then again I'm usually not a fan of triple, quadruple, etc. wood.
    • Finish
Chocolate, marmalade, and tin. Medium length.

  33. Dre73 scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

Simply a good, full whisky, not too complex but just very pleasant, with lots of sweet and fruity notes. Pretty strong for a 46% Abv.
    • Nose
      85 85
Sweet, pretty full nose, orange too, honey. Some floral notes and grassy, citrus, fresh.
    • Taste
      86 86
Pretty strong, pickering, sweet, honey, also fruity, orange again. Pretty full taste.
    • Finish
      85 85
Still pretty much tingling mouthfeel, strong, some peach and orange, still some sweetness, honey, floral. Pretty long.

  34. billythekid63 scored this whisky 90 points Newbie

Very powerful single malt. Billy Walker probably landed a really good litter with it. Now the quality has to hold up too.
    • Nose
      Very sherry.
    • Taste
Strongly sweet. I think it has a slightly metallic taste. You have to like that. Lies well on the tongue and on the palate.
    • Finish
Very long, pleasant finish in the back of the tongue - slightly bitter.

  37. 2ndSip scored this whisky 76 points Expert Senior

On the nose incredibly complex, the taste is dominantly peppery and spicy with a slightly (coffee) tart aftertaste. Interesting for beginners / advanced beginners because of the complexity of the nose.
    • Nose
      80 80
A bit alcoholic at the beginning, but passes quickly. Sweetness with raisins and dried fruits (red & dark color), grapes and berries as well as caramel and honey. In the background only very slightly banana and pear, which become stronger as the course progresses. With a few drops of water: more berries and a sweet banana aroma (fully ripe banana) and some cinnamon.
    • Taste
      75 75
very soft in the beginning, then takes a good ride with spices and pepper. The sweetness from the aroma recedes somewhat. A little sweeter and fruity with the second sip. Some raisins and nuts. A malt and oak note arrives on the palate. A little bit of coffee (bitter chocolate) will be added later.
    • Finish
      72 72
long-lasting. Spices (especially peppery) and oak dominate together with a malty taste. The tart coffee with a tendency to bitterness stays on the tongue and on the palate with a berry aroma / dried berries for a long time. The sweetness fades relatively quickly.

Wow - what a difference to the first batch. There are similarities in the nose, but then, once in the mouth, it goes in a completely different direction with surprising notes. Still very tasty and great for an evening with friends.
    • Nose
      87 87
Nose: slightly different than the first batch - still pear and slightly sourish apples, but now comes dark honey and raisins. Caramel biscuits, a hint of vanilla, dark cherries and a hint of old spicy oak.
    • Taste
      86 86
Ultra creamy, the alcohol tingling lightly (nothing was felt in the nose), gingerbread spice and gravy, sour cherries and neat sweetness that fights against the dark aromas and light acidity.
    • Finish
      86 86
Have here also first dark gravy on wine basis then neat sweetness and raisins. The sweetness dominates the medium-long Angang. Oak is only discreetly available. Very easy to drink and slightly dry finish.

Very nice dark color for a 12-year-old. Hard to believe that nothing was dyed here. The photo shown here makes the whisky appear much brighter than it actually is. The Glenallachie is quite difficult. There is not much to drink from it.

It is more likely to have a rum than a whisky in a glass. Not a typical whisky, as you are used to it.
    • Nose
      88 88
Pleasant sweet smell of honey, raisins and sherry cherries dominate. It comes through a little gingerbread and Christmas cookies. Slight salty note. Alcohol well integrated.
    • Taste
      85 85
Raisins and cherries dominate here as well. Gingerbread and speculoos fill the mouth. Unfortunately, the alcohol comes out a bit. But is for a 12-year-olds with 46% still completely ok.
    • Finish
      87 87
Surprisingly long finish. Probably because of the raisins. Sweet ripe tropical fruits in the aftermath. That's it.
