    Tasted in a whisky festival.

Cotswolds has impressed me as a young new distillery, which is usually not the case. So I try them when I can and I feel they could be a producing a good product, once it’s of age. The problem with new distilleries is that they need to compete with a bottle of Springbank 10 at $65 vs this release at half the age is double the price. I don’t envy that position from a business point of view, that’s for sure. Maybe it makes me a bad person but I just cannot spend $120 on a 5 year old whisky. Hopefully they are able to weather the financial storm and the pricing becomes more competitive in the years to come...

Astringent alcohol and dry oak, then a whole lot of nothing. Water breaks this apart however. Its rather green, with freshly cut twigs and ground bark. It proceeds with oranges and dried yellow stone fruit. Not bad!
    • Nose
Pretty aggressive at this strength. Well-balanced tannins and caramel cake, but overall rather closed-off. Water helps here as well. When diluting it down to 43-45% ABV it finally shows its character: thoroughly balanced, caramel sweetness, candied peaches, and faint dried banana. A young malt, sure, but quite pleasant.
    • Taste
Medium-short. A touch of mint chocolate and butter-scotch biscuit.
    • Finish
I liked the Odyssey-Barley release a tad better. It’s worth a try though. Single Malt from England is somehow still rather unlikely for me *wink*.
