Whisky Reviews for Bruichladdich 2005 ICC

3 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 88.74 points

  1. Glenjasper scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

    • Nose
      91 91
Great note of sherry, blood oranges, winter fruits, pastries and light, barely perceptible smoke. In the background the smell of broth.
    • Taste
      93 93
A light pepper note comes with the blood orange to the fore. A great sherry taste without the sometimes annoying and overlying raisin flavor wrapped in light smoke. Fine caramel suggests.
    • Finish
      79 79
Slowly, the smoke dominates and dissolves orange, shortbread and cherry flavors.

Then, unfortunately, a sulfur note comes to the fore, which does not do the whisky good.

      Is more common with Bruichladdich.

There may be lovers for this flavor, for me it is rather a false note of rotten egg, which has cost the otherwise very good whisky a much better grading.

Less of a fruit bomb than the official Bruichladdichs. Rather on the extreme side of sherry when it comes to meaty sulfurous aromas and flavors.
    • Nose
      89 89
Sulfurous brimstone, capers in vinegar, and coffee liqueur. With some more air, there is sweet chocolate coated sandal wood. Sweet liquid gunpowder, unstruck matches, and farmy undertones of dung and cut grass. Obligatory caramelized dried fruit of course.
    • Taste
      90 90
Sweet and viscous arrival with an immediate drying sensation of dusty oak and big mint chocolate – of the dark variety. Umami-esqe undertones. A tad more fruity than the nose suggests. Peach, mango chutney, and smoked pineapple.
    • Finish
      88 88
Medium-long. Tasty tannins aplenty, black tea, herbal candy and mild smoky caramel – smoky being induced by the sulfurous aromas presumably.

Conclusion: Color is still everything the malt can offer. Attention - sulfur bomb!
    • Nose
Lots of sulfur, fireworks, sour red fruits, that's all - where is the Laddie character? Killed from the barrel !!!
    • Taste
The sulfur makes itself felt in slight rot (eggs), compact sweet, dry,
    • Finish
      Sulfur dominates, peppery, dry oak
