Wonderfull well matured signature of Arran. A lot of fruit and vanilla. A very long warm, mellow and creamy finish. Stunning !
    • Nose
      88 88
Lots of vanilla, pineapple, quite creamy. Some coconut
    • Taste
      89 89
A burst of vanilla, pineapple, whipped cream, a lot of woodyness (fresh oak).
    • Finish
      90 90
Very fruity and creamy finish. Again pineapples and some apricots as well now. A long and nuttyness and woodyness stays in the mouth for quite some time.

1746) Arran, 21YO, Lochranza Castle, The Explorers Series- Volume 2, Bottled 2019
    • Nose
N- The hue appeared light, considering this is fully matured in Sherry HH. Rusty, tangy red fruits by the nutty edge. Marzipan and a little caramelized banana and chocolaty. Breath in and feel the layer of pressed nut oils. (87/21)
    • Taste
P- Profound, medium dry sherry nuance and slightly waxy, sweetness warming up to spices and red currants. The oxidized, off sour note, emerged occasionally but was not too disturbing. (87/21)
    • Finish
F- Medium, drying, and faded gently over the sweetness of red fruits. (86/20)

B/B- 86/20 Very good Vol 1 and 3, this Vol 2 tasted like straight from the Sherry Tap.

      Weighted Rate- 82pt

Very good, classic, soft, and balanced whisky. Sweet vanilla and light fruit tones with darker sherry influence gives not extraordinary but pleasant experience.

Excellent whisky. If you love vanilla and complex soft whisky, this is a sure bet.
    • Nose
The scent is full of vanilla cream and honey. Sweet and well balanced. Alcohol is completely suppressed. The aroma is refreshed by a light acidity and tones of pineapple.
    • Taste
It corresponds perfectly with the scent. Vanilla, honey, pineapple, and cream tones, with a pinch of pepper, ginger, and mint. The woodiness is light and pleasant.
    • Finish
Mildly spiced with wood and candied pineapple.

  9. TheWhiskySloth scored this whisky 90 points Expert Junior

My joint favourite of the series next to the Kildonan and Pladda Island. Both are well composed and balanced but just show different character/styles. This is the more Bourbon forward but still a pleasant Sherry blend.
    • Nose
Crystallised pineapple & ginger, maple syrup, dried coconut with a hint of vanilla. Dry baking spices, ground ginger and the tiniest hint of turmeric.
    • Taste
Juicy, soft and round. Pineapple flesh, honey and a bakery of deserts. Some ground ginger.
    • Finish
Pineapple juice, shortbread biscuits and some tobacco.

  10. Calmar scored this whisky 89 points Connoisseur

A very pleasant whisky of a classic Highlander profile, the palette of derivatives is not too diverse, but this restraint and brevity is just characteristic of this style and is compensated by the depth of detail, the play of shades and halftones; excellent balance, integrity and self-sufficiency are included.
    • Nose
Open, dry, delicate woody notes, leather goods, sweet caramel shades, candied citrus fruits, floral honey tones, lemon zest, shortbread cookies, light mineral motifs, fried vegetables.
    • Taste
Soft, rich, spicy wood, bark astringency, a little pepper, sweet caramel and creamy shades, leather goods,
    • Finish
Spicy, refreshing, leather goods, oak, grapefruit rind, creamy candy notes, oily tones, pipe tobacco.

Good and very interesting bottling. I think the issue price is reasonable. For me it doesn't quite come close to the outstanding Explorers 3 Kildonan & Pladda, whose barrel-loading capacity I love. Here the ripening is more subtle.
    • Nose
      90 90
Give him time. It unfolds best after 20 minutes. A rather atypical nose for sherry aging. Not a typical Oloroso. Rather little, spicy, strong white wine. Muscatel? Buttery. Shortbread. Then there is a strong association with rum or rum maturation through notes of overripe banana, honeydew melon and a hint of coconut. Intense vanilla like bourbon from the fresh barrel. A slight acidity - typical for Arran - resonates. And where should the 47.2% be? Very well integrated. I like it better and better over time. Unusual and complex.
    • Taste
      88 88
Begins very differently from the nose. Spicy at the beginning, then nutty, then there is a dryness that leads to cocoa. The amontillado finish plays a major role here. Fruity white wine in the background. Shortbread. Melon. Honey. Trail mix.
    • Finish
      88 88
Sounds stronger like a bourbon barrel than a sherry barrel. Quite sweet, little dryness. Nice presence. Butter cake. Then there are also subtle Caribbean notes: banana, coconut. For 90 points, a little stamina is missing at the back.

Wauw, love this dram! Only 9000 bottles released. Great product although it is expensive. This is a fruity dram with delicious warm tones. Hint of vanilla and pineapple, some apricots at the back. Even a hidden touch of green melon somewhere hidden in the flavours :-) Nuts and wood in the finish with gentle vanilla. Full, almost a creamy texture. Great product!
    • Nose
      89 89
Wonderfull dram! A lot of sweetness and fruit with hints of vanilla. Surprising nose (for me it seemed like the alcohol of this whisky is higher in percentage due to the nose).
    • Taste
      85 85
Oily! Full. Hint of toasted white bread. Beautiful tones of vanilla. Fruitiness - for me something that reminds me of pineapple. Hint of nuts, sand and even a bit of coconut.
    • Finish
      89 89
The finish is amazing: long and gentle with a great layer of vanilla, pineapple, and even some whipped cream. At the back, after a few sips there is something dry - like tobacco leaves too...

Oooh I like this, I get stone fruits, honey oak and a floral quality all balanced wonderfully. Just complex enough and a very enjoyable pour.
    • Nose
      90 90
Soft and round, rich fruit and honey, stone fruit and creamed honey to be exact. Light malt and wine influence (touch of sour)
    • Taste
      91 91
Everything the nose had, but a wonderful sweet sour entry balanced by delicious oak, fruity and honeyed.
    • Finish
      90 90
Light lingering warmth from the abv, oak and honey, fairly long.

a bit underwhelming tbh, the taste is quite bland and the ABV doesn't show up
    • Nose
coconut, bourboniness, wood sawdust, fresh apple, sea buckthorn, buns, raisins, pear, pineapple, almonds, walnuts, white chocolate, tea, tropical fruits, lime, dried apricots, dense forest honey, needles
DILUTED: raspberries, fruitiness lasts longer, white grapes, forest fruits
    • Taste
acidity, crusaders, drier sherry, pineapple, boiled apples, wood, cardamom, almonds, caramel, vanilla
DILUTED: sweeter than without water, more vanilla
    • Finish
honey, nuts, apple peels and crosses, wood, dried apricots, raisins, sultanas, yellow melon
DILUTED: fresher, apples, a trace of salt

A different take from the previous Brodick Bay. Minus the floral, green, grassy notes. Plus some sweet fruity and explosion of fruit notes. No citrus.

    86 now, 2 months later.
    • Nose
      86 86
Fruity start, smells like a bourbon matured scotch. Light wood scent. Give it 20 mins or so, it will open up.
    • Taste
      88 88
Thick and dense vanilla bean, crushed up cardamom, parsley, hint of pepper. Honeydew melon, pink lady apple. Full cream milk. Roasted almond and cashew nuts, dark berries, overripe bananas.
    • Finish
      85 85
Medium finish, rather wet. The lingering melon and honey taste still wafts around. Quaker oat cereal like sensation, the feeling like some bits are stuck between teeth.

Dead finish with little to no development further on.
