  1. LDB scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

Really great for the price, the Campbeltown DNA and richness comes through with about half a spoonful of water. It takes patience, then the almost noble.
    • Nose
      87 87
Salt liquorice, topped orange fig schnapps (if that were the case), fresh sourdough rye bread.
With H²O it gets sweeter: honey bread and apricot cake.
    • Taste
      87 87
Spicy freshness of an alpine herbal sweets, rather oily, and with water comes much clearer sweet pepper and orange tictac than without. Very tasty and full.
    • Finish
      86 86
Quick dry, the oak comes perfectly around the corner. Yes, it's dry and slightly bitter, but I'm fine with that.

  2. LDB scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

Totally underrated. Delicious, well-matured. Glorious stuff.
One of the few really good bang-for-your-bucks whiskies in this dark, drab, dystopian year 2019.

  3. Lukas_Kiene scored this whisky 86 points Expert Senior

Very solid, tasty malt with wonderful, slightly dark and pleasantly bitter aromas in combination with overripe fruits. Very complex and simply delicious.
    • Nose
Full, juicy fruit notes. First impression: extremely tasty! Very gently spicy, juicy citrus notes, some dry caramel and chocolate. In addition, nice sweet cereal notes / whole grain in the background. Then some fermented fruits follow.
    • Taste
Malty sweetness, fresh grain and wood notes, plus chocolate. Only later do juicy, slightly overripe fruits and slightly tangy, sweet citrus notes follow. In addition, slight nutty notes. After a while, some leather and rather dark fruit notes emerge.
    • Finish
Super pleasant, very slightly tart, slightly nutty, tart chocolate cream, subliminal tangy-fresh fruits, a little green apple.

  4. Maltimizer scored this whisky 80 points Expert Junior

    • Nose
      79 79
Salty, floral, sour apples, some sulfur and cane sugar, in the background a subtle note of ginger
    • Taste
      82 82
Spicy with white pepper, subtly fruity, white coffee, salty, green grapes with seeds
    • Finish
      80 80
Medium long oak influence, tingly, coffee and dark chocolate

  5. KyotoLefty scored this whisky 85 points Expert Junior

Appearance: Rather medium to deep orange amber.

Nose: Barley sugar, caramel, tangy fruits, grape, raisin, vanilla. Bourbon I guess. Light cinnamon. Light ginger notes. There is a meaty, savory aspect somewhat similar to Old Parr. Salty, coastal notes.

Palate: Barley sugar, cookies, cinnamon, vanilla, cherry, apples, oak, sea air, quite savory. Touch of iodine peat. Nuts. Walnuts.

Finish: Peppery, milk sugar, vanilla, a bit sour, dry, oaky.

With Water: Needs a bit. Opens up a bit, nice sweetness, spices.

Overall: Very malty and spicy, savory and a bit sour. Nice overall but not really my favorite. Quite original, though.

Delicious but also somewhat simple, middle-aged malt. But it gets better with time in the glass. In my opinion, taking time is worth it.
    • Nose
      85 85
soft, gentle, almost noble beginning on the nose, slightly salty, fresh sour bread dough. Hay, meadow of flowers, fruity-sweet after apricots and mandarins, everything nice and juicy. Dark forest honey and fruit-yeast bread, slightly malty, slightly sulphurous, varied, I like it very much.
    • Taste
      85 85
Spicy, fresher, kick-off, white pepper, some herbs, some menthol, oily, sweetness and fruit mix very well.
No flavors overload, straightforward, simple, tasty.
    • Finish
      84 84
Medium-long finish, becoming drier, clean oak spice that spreads slightly tingling, a bit bitter after espresso and dark chocolate.

  7. Sandman scored this whisky 82 points Connoisseur

Honey, orange, flowers, plums, dried apricot, vanilla, milk chocolate, almonds and barley.
