I had a good experience with 2011 edition, let's see this one.

N : I like that nose, nice balance of sweetness and acidity. Vanilla custard, concentrated milk, lemon, touch of pear, perhaps peach ? Of course a slight peat. Simple, straightforward, no false note. It grows a nice cereal note sometimes, like spent grains.
M : Peat, salt and pepper. There's the sweet part, but way lighter than on the nose. A bit of ginger. That's where a few more years would really help, it lacks body.
F : Rather powerful, ashes, black pepper. Nice menthol touch in the end. Quickly gone though.

Nice nose, but it generally lacks authority and there's a tough competition in that price range. 6/10

A much different take on Port Charlotte than the new standard 10yo. While the 10 offered more layers and complexity undoubtedly due to a variety of types of casks, this is a PC that is clean as a whistle, simpler and more direct. Drinking it right after a Laddie Scottish Barley, this PC is surprisingly soft and supple. The nose brings on barnyard aromas, some dirty peat and a light sweetness. The palette is oaky, vanilla and a medium lingering peat finish. I would get the 10yo if I had to choose, but I’m not disappointed by this one as it delivers a more straight up, distillate forward experience. An enjoyable detour on the many branches of roads on the Bruichladdich journey.

A pretty clean, amazingly civilized PC for his age.
You will notice his youth throughout (clearly) in the aromas, but he is neither sharp nor harsh, a pleasant malt.
Due to his youth a little one-dimensional in the mouth. Overall very neat for what it is.

Also tolerates water, then becomes somewhat rounder and fruity finish.

Smoldering campfire, ashes, smoked bacon, turpentine and mineral undertones. Acts behind the smoke already young, the new make seems a bit through, but is very clean and clear. Pear, a few rather unripe apricots, vanilla, a hint of lemon zest.
    • Taste
      85 85
Starts slightly sweet and almost round, then quickly becomes masculine, massive, wiry. Smoky, slightly maritime, light-fruited, surprisingly harmonious and full-bodied. Slightly peppery. Again, the new make seems to be behind the smoke.
    • Finish
      86 86
Fairly long, intense, dry, again smoky and slightly fruity, then noticeable oak and boiled potatoes behind.

i must say that i am a sucker for port charlotte. i did not have any port charlotte which i did not really really like. they just know their stuff there. the 2cl sample disappeard faster than expected.

the nose show a very high complexity with maritime notes, as well as sweet bright fruit and dark honeyed oats. the young age cant be found anywhere. many 12y++ malts cant keep up with this dram. marvelous.

beautiful fresh islay peat. crispy and citrussy with a decent portion of sweetness. white pepper. mint. maybe some eucalyptus? grapey and maritime. oak and kelp. could smell this nose all night long. after a few noses the bruichladdich character somes thorugh more and more, showing furry peaches and cornflakes. very high complexity.
    • Taste
      88 88
citrussy peat. very sweet. ashes. less complexity than on the nose but still enough. you would never expect this to be so young. numbs the tongue and leaves an oily film on the tongue.
    • Finish
      87 87
middle long but very satisfying finish. cant find anything disturbing here. great whisky.
