typical young 1st fill bourbon, pungent wood aromas, lots of perfume, does not convince me
    • Nose
      86 86
sweet, floral and dirty, reminiscent of vanilla kipper, lavender, laurel, wood glue, lemon, very mineral and a hint of cowshed
    • Taste
      84 84
intense, young, slightly piercing, firtip syrup, perfume, fresh wood, bourbon notes, candy, white pepper and farm
    • Finish
      84 84
stay medium-long, fresh oak and cowshed

    Very peculiar and unusual.
Perfume notes, as well as lemon shower powder from Lush, a little vanilla and rose water.

  4. Issie did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

    • Nose
Honey, apple, a little lemon, peach, apricot, gooseberry, melon, tangerine and peach from the can, just got full of the fruit salad Flashback, minimal earth, minimal grass
    • Taste
Honey, peach, dried apricots, melon, lime, caramel, a little pepper

You really need an active cask when bottling at this age, and here, this was the case. Works well enough!
    • Nose

These highly idiosyncratic, typically Glen Scotia aromas of juniper, anise, and lemongrass are framed by some perfectly competent first-fill bourbon wood notes, with caramel/butterscotch and pretty prominent florals (lily and rosewater).
    • Taste
      85 85
Super sweet, salty and mineral. Ideas of peat in the background, but you could also just say that this feels "maritime". Salted caramel and some weird herbal-botanical concoction, almost as if this were a scotch / gin hybrid. I can see why this would be too weird for some.
    • Finish
      84 84
Lots of grasses and botanicals. Sweet grains and popcorn.

with water: now it opens, becomes sweeter, rounder, more fruity, the artificial notes evaporate, but the laurel remains

Conclusion: I have rarely had such a strange whisky in a glass. Very interesting, but unfortunately not really tasty, only with water it turns into a good drop

a very strange aroma with notes that I haven't had in a whisky yet, lemon shower powder and bay leaves, light perfume note, the nose also has something slightly artificial and also slightly pungent like thinner / turpentine, with a slightly earthy, mineral, subtle honey sweetness , some vanilla, with a little time in the glass the malt calms down a little, with hand warmth the expected boubon cascades like vanilla, caramel, light fruit and also a little coconut come through
    • Taste
      82 82
nice start with sweetness, vanilla and some fruit, then the laurel comes back to wear overall but a bit too thin and too little body
    • Finish
      82 82
relatively short, vanilla, some salt, earthy, subtle oak with laurel, little bitterness behind

    Unrefined Sugar
A single cask Glen Scotia – first fill bourbon barrel 465 – that was released as ‘Spring 2019’. Let’s get to work!
The nose is a veritable liquid candy! Unrefined sugar. Vanilla like there’s not tomorrow, but also quite a bit of lime and apricots. Remember those apricot flavored Superman logos? Then a fresh bouquet of flowers and molded wood. Not as ‘dirty’ as I am used to from Glen Scotia, but that’s just fine. However… leave it to breath for ten minutes and it starts to smell like shampoo and buttermilk! Bizarre, funny and pleasant.
The arrival is quite powerful, but very, very perfume-y. This is shampoo, indeed! But to be completely honest: it does work. Lots of white pepper over a handful of candy, soft cough syrup and a truckload of lavender. My god, I need to toothbrush!
The finish is very long, sweet, spicy and… perfume-y.
Well, that’s was weird, but certainly also a very pleasant taste sensation. Pure fun!
