    Tasted at the distillery.
    As with the 12YO, 46% and no filtering makes all the difference.
    Everything is crancked up a bit from the 12, but I'm not sure if it is on a level that can justify the difference in price.

      Not that different from the 12YO, but it has gained a little in both depth and refinement.
      Not quite as sweet, but the fruit is more expressive and complex.
      Here as well is an underlying carpet of something darker with a touch of spice.

      Rounded, with everything well matched and integrated.
      Same fruits as in the 12, but add a bit of apple.
      Richer, rounder, and maybe a tad bit less sweetness.

      Again compairing to the 12, this is rounding off in the same civilized way, staying a little longer. Medium++

    Tasted in the living room

    Very in phase with the 12 years in term of nose. Quite fresh, with extra notes of leather.

    On the palate, a little richer, deeper and greedy than the 12 years old.

    Flowers, honey, vanilla, lemon, tropical fruit mix, ripe banana, nutmeg, chocolate, ginger, hint of breakfast cereals and pepper.

    delicious and tasty I would say
    an easydrinking malt
    • Nose
      Sherry, raisins, dark, sweetness is getting stronger, vanilla, baked apple, minimal oak / wood, spices (cinnamon !, nutmeg?)
      later: Apfelmuss, lemon, the vanilla is really herlich
      from 1920 Blendersglas: dark wood, more sweetness, red wine, very spicy, even more vanilla, banana, to the end quite tart lemon (nschale)
    • Taste
      full and silky on the palate
      sweet, spicy, light oak becomes more, caramel, slightly vanilla, cinnamon, apple
      later bitter, citrus notes, wood from the pencil (without the graphite !!)
    • Finish
      medium to long
      Sherry, sweet, light oak gets more, toasted, bitter and dark chocolate

    Character: A passable drinkable bottling that scores with a rather varied nose: vinous, fresh and with delicious light fruits. Applesauce and cinnamon pass through nose and taste. In comparison, the finish is a bit off the mark: personally, it's a bit too herbaceous.
    Rating: The beautiful nose has created a tension that can not quite keep the taste and finish. Overall, not bad, but unfortunately the bottling does not really hit my taste buds: 84 points.
    • Nose
      At the beginning, this bottling is remarkably vinous and fruity. Significant sherry bonds meet bright and exotic fruits. There are surprisingly many nuances here. A real ride through the garden: from juicy sultanas to applesauce with cinnamon, orange peel and lime, to soapy exotic fruits: mango meets passion fruit. Over time, the applesauce and cinnamon notes dominate and a bit of leather works its way forward. Quite delicious. I'm looking forward to the tasting.
    • Taste
      The onset is creamy and a bit oily. First of all, it is remarkably rich in vanilla and malt. Accompanied by light fruits: apples, pears and vineyard peaches. A surprisingly strong oak spice stops the thought of applesauce, cinnamon and orange peel. It becomes increasingly peppery before a tart, slightly sour oak takes over. Almonds come through. Then orange peels again. Vanilla flashes briefly. Then take over the bitter oak again. In the overall view, nothing that tears me from the stool, but quite delicious, and I like the taste interplay.
    • Finish
      The finish is medium to long and is accompanied by a warming sensation in the epigastrium. A tart, herbaceous oak flavor pervades and dominates the finish. Accompanied by orange peel, a slightly tart lemon flavor, pepper and cinnamon.

    Nose: Quite rich, with baked apples,drizzled with honey and spices (cinnamon, cardamom), and some sultanas on top. A hint of citrus which balances the apple sweetness, maybe a touch of ginger bread.

    Palate: The baked / cooked apples are still very dominant, with more of the dried fruit , some chocolate and toffee, and wood. The official notes speak of tropical fruit, but I must admit I fail to find those notes here..

    Finish: Oak, dried fruit (date,raisin) and orange jam.

    Conclusion: Quite a different animal than the 12 year old. the ex-sherry finishing has really had a big impact on the liquid. Quite heavier and chocolate-y with the dried fruit and apples combining well. Well made

    The oak forms a nice counterpoint to the strong bright fruits. Beautifully made and balanced whisky. These beautiful cinnamon and apple notes that together make applesauce please me exceptionally well.
    • Nose
      Vanilla together with light fruits, sweet red and green apples, juicy pears, peaches and apricot. The oak is pleasantly in the background, but is always present. Again and again a cinnamon note comes through, and I have to think of warm applesauce. Also some new leather and a hint of lemon.
    • Taste
      Moderate onset, silky mouthfeel. Also on the palate immediately the thought of applesauce with cinnamon. Beautiful vanilla, the oak announces itself with spicy notes and hazelnuts. The apricot is also still clearly.
    • Finish
      Medium. The hazelnuts and dark chocolate make me think of dark nougat chocolates. Spicy oak. Some peppery lemon leaves the tip of the tongue tingling for a while.
