Whisky Reviews for Bruichladdich 2004 BW

  1. Hemdl scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

Expectations fully met. A really nice Laddie, which offers a wonderful interaction especially in the nose. The taste of Grenache Noir does not quite match my favorite of the series, the Château d'Yquem. But that does not detract from the quality of the malt. Again, you get a really good Bruichladdich from a special barrel for a fair price. In short - exactly what makes the series.
    • Nose
Surprise, not even superimposed on the wine barrel, as one might expect from the color. Very nice! Of course there is a subtle berry mixture and a few red grapes. But not less vehemently there is also a mixture of cotton candy, caramel sweets, butter biscuits and malted barley. I really like this mixture of caramel, biscuits and barley, because it also reflects the Laddie character and shows that the interaction between the basic character and the barrel worked wonderfully here. Fresh and fruity, without being superimposed.
    • Taste
Strong start, the cask strength pushes here already strong. Maybe he can handle a good shot of water, but I will leave that aside. On the palate, the malt is now much more influenced by the barrel. Rather dry (discreet!) And with a stronger influence of wine, the red fruits and some oak spices show up here. Too bad that the strong caramel note from the nose can only be guessed at here.
    • Finish
Medium-long and dry, the fine spiciness comes out now stronger and in the end the feeling of having just drunk a heavy red wine. The fruit sweetness flashes briefly, but here dominated now the "heavy" of the wine barrel.

  2. Lorion scored this whisky 89 points Expert Senior

Powerful and great. You have to focus on him, certainly not for the way. Well, I think it's really good! 89 points.
    • Nose
Vinous, rosy and quite strong. The Bruichladdich typical dough and cheese flavors are here (if at all) only in the background to guess. Here, strawberries are dominant and vinous oak. Some rum raisins and plums.

Water: slightly fruity, otherwise the nose remains similar.
    • Taste
Very full and creamy. Sweet and tingling, the whole mouth is filled. The strawberries are juicy and ripe with sweet wood. Juicy orange, even the shell is there. Some anise.

Water: Not so full and creamy. Fruity, more fruit acid. Orange juice.
    • Finish
Long, warm. Very tender, bitter oak remains. Orange peel.

  4. Kantenmechaniker scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

the blanc is darker and more harmonious and better. The Noir then captivates with its sharpness and impetuosity, while being more restrained in the intensity of the aromas.
    • Nose
Reluctant, light sweetness, some red fruit towards raspberry, coconut, bubbly, a bit like skin cream. yes creamy, vanilla, much less wine influence than the "bright" sister barrel, some caramel, even here comes the Laddie still through, cherry, like a red dessert sauce on a panna cotta
with water: smoother with water, quite pleasant, quite coconut-like
    • Taste
oily, nut, raspberry, again restrained, slightly woody, nutty, caramel, a hint of vanilla, slightly vinous, slightly spicy, not unpleasant, spicy, slightly licorice, the wood becomes even more pronounced, quite impetuous
with water: thinner, but the same in the basic flavors
    • Finish
a little nut, still vinous, cherry juice, medium-long

Bold and fruity whisky. It's almost overpowered.
