A Ledaig that is more like an Ardbeg. Doesn’t have as much of the Ledaig funk. A pretty active cask, and a good one. I like it a lot.

Softer lemony peat, tar, road weathered rubber, punchy obviously.
    • Taste
      89 89
Creamy, lemon cake, tar, marshmallow, menthol
    • Finish
      88 88
heat picks up, chili peppers, white pepper, you feel the alcohol much more than the palate. clean smoke and peat.

Pungent, damped earthy peatiness, with some bready and yeasty notes. Yogurt like sourness, and some porridge-y as well. The sharp citrus fruits behind the peat curtain is very clean and zesty. Young and fiery, as expected from this high abv and young Ledaig. The nose improved slightly after a sip.
    • Taste
      85 85
Sweet arrival, pretty gentle considering the 61.6% abv. Lemon flavored cough sweets and slightly salty, with some bitter orange peel. Surprisingly rounded towards the end.
    • Finish
      85 85
Bitter orange peel up front, after a while some gentle smokiness and nice creamy and sweet finishing.

    1425) Ledaig, 2007/2019, 11YO, Adelphi Selection

    Day 32 of Lockdown - 18th April - Sunrise-Sunset, Sunrise-Sunset, Sunrise-Sunset.... It's OK not to be OK.

N- Feinty and peat oozing along, nose melting and punchy just what I needs and expects from Ledaig. Waves of minty nuance with toffee at the outer layer, soft nutty and caramel drifting. Some salts perhaps, some dried fruits and raisin. Ended with flows of milky chocolate that comes on late. (91/22)

P- Winning grips, blade-y and sharp that gives palate a wake up call. Iodine, antiseptic, creamy, chocolate sweet with peat and burning spicy. (90/22)

F- Slightly more than medium, a wee shallow for the given hefty strength. Crisp with lasting spicy flavours. Not getting much of the saltiness and not so "coastal". (87/21)

    B/B- 90/22

    Weighted Rate- 87pt

Lovely dram, and very drinkable at 61.6%.
    • Nose
      84 84
First nose, berry malt porridge. Nose feels younger than suggest, need a long rest. Vanilla, bandage, lemon, floral, little peat,
    • Taste
      85 85
Lemony, salt, peat, vanilla, sake like floral.
    • Finish
      86 86
Medium long, with delicate lemon sweetness and saltiness.

    • Nose

Dirty, heavy, gritty and very harsh on the nose. Give ample time and it will reduce itself to a soft lemon and lime zest, paired with fraiche cream. Subtle pepper, honeysuckle and tobacco ash.

Edit: Softer on the nose, given 2 weeks to blossom. No longer is it dirty but still subtly bumpy.
    • Taste
      86 86
Mentholatum, lemon, parsnips, ash cinders, medicinal flavours.
    • Finish
      87 87
Spicy and oil, butter with cracked peppercorn. Off to the side on leather notes with green grass notes. Its herbal, yes; hard yet tender as well.
