    Definitely something else!
    • Nose
      93 93
Sweet peat with ground coffee and dark chocolate, some oak and hints of tobacco. After some more time in the glass, some citrus and sweet fruits.
    • Taste
      96 96
A delightful explosion of fresh ground coffee, dark chocolate, and peat mixing perfectly without dominating. Develops over time in your mouth with its smooth oily texture.
    • Finish
      92 92
Sweet and fresh coffee and chocolate immediately, which gives way to lighter notes of oak and after a while some dry white wine which lingers quite long with subtle hints of chocolate.

An interesting, balanced whisky, which combines the style of Ledaig and barrel spirits
    • Nose
      87 87
The first nose is wine acidity and branded rubber. Standing, complemented by flowers and dried fruits.
    • Taste
      86 86
      Oily, dense. Sweet rubber
    • Finish
      87 87
      Long, malleable: smoke and oak

Poured for me in a blind tasting, I know Tobermory when I smell it... wow that cask though is something else. Sweet balances out the peat in this making for somethign that's a little off the beaten path. I'm basing this on price, at $170 CDN for a bottle this is a great dram to start a peated evening with or finish out a long day.

Let's have a few minutes to tale about white choclate and strawberries. If you had a freeze dried strawberry white cocolate bar and dipped taht in some mud...then somehow set it into some ashes, this is your ticket to success. The nose is sweet, peat, smoke and strawberry wine. Really a cracker at the price it came in at... not something you need to have everyday, but wow is that a finish.

Smoke forward, loads of rich Ledaig mud; some serious peat hanging in here. Loads of sweets backing it up; fruit jammed into coal fires... coal oal. Kersoenea nd ground herbs. Fresh mud and sharp oak, mud pies and water simply makes this expand. Loads of sweet and and peat, more and more it turns to ashy sweet peat.
    • Finish
      86 86
Really wild, loads of oak and chocolate. Spice city and malty smoked porridge. Almost some hints of Szechuan peppercorn and a twist of charcoal barbecued lemons.

Wow, massive. Most intense Ledaig I’ve had, I think. It’s not my favourite style of Ledaig, and lacks balance in my opinion. The first cask must have been pretty inactive, I can see why they went this route, but for a wine maturation Ledaig I preferred the 2005 Hermitage by G&M.
    • Nose
      86 86
Very peated, even for a Ledaig. Earthy peat, vegetal peat, wet dog, a bit on the winey side. but it’s very naked for 17 years I can see why they got impatient.
    • Taste
      85 85
Oily sweet and viscous, Chardonnay, ashy, capers, very briney, green olives, oysters with lemon granita.
    • Finish
      86 86
Enormous, very long, billowing smoke, burning plastic, wet wool, acidic.
