I wasn't expecting anything special but ... to keep it short : this is, on the palate, one of the best things I had in months. Stellar quality. As often, it's not the very identity of flavours that make a difference but rather their progression and display, served by the magnificient texture and alcohol integration that goes with them. Probably my best Glen Keith to date.

It displays some typical Glen Keith markers, but already rather on the fruitier end of the spectrum. The scent of Haribo banana's is enormous. The signature note of white cake icing, that most of these 90's GK seem to have, is there as well. White chocolate, classic. Rather less flowers and feminine traits than in others, but they are still present. With time, develops a slightly less generous side on a few vegetal notes (vinaigrette), but it's well within limits compared to others. White wine. The sucrosity seems to decrease but comes back after some time. Very good nose but not necessarily above average in terms of elegance or delivery.

Oh boy. Sweet god. This is just magnificient. The arrival is of incredible softness, marked by a super fruity and sweet trio : poached pears, apricot syrup, tinned pineapples. And then it superbly develops, with perfect alcohol integration, going into first class Riesling territories, with a superb pebble-like minerality and super sweet spices. Further sips confirm that this is just wow-level stuff. Amazing.

Continues with this magnificient pebble-like minerality, whistle clean, bringing back the pears, the apricot stones, some soft mint and that cake-icing feeling. Super slight salty touch. Perfect.

When I learned that Asta Morris was about to launch another Glen Keith 1994, I was already wringing my hands in anticipation. After all, the previous release about a year ago, was truly fabulous – but destined for Japan. Just 42 bottles remained in our neck of the woods, sold exclusively through a Dutch retailer. Those were gone in a flash and I had to make do with a sample. This time around, I was in time to get my hands on one of the 179 bottles.

The nose is very creamy and fruity. I get banana, as well as apricots and coconuts. Apples in the frying pan, sprinkled with cinnamon. Some mint and even some sage. Tobacco leaves. Milk chocolate. Honey. Chamomile tea. This is very aromatic and round.

It is immediately round and sweet on the palate, but also pretty spicy. Think nutmeg, cloves and cinnamon and a single chili pepper. Dark honey precedes the even darker fruit: overripe banana, fresh fig, joined at the hip by blood oranges and pink grapefruit. Candied ginger and coconut complete the near perfect picture. Very, very nice.

The finish is long with a slight bitterness at the death.

A complete whisky if you know what I mean. Boy, I just noticed that this is already (or should that be ‘only just’) my 25th Glen Keith. Around 180 EUR.
