A very simple whisky, with a restrained nose, not very aromatic but very mild.

While the palate is nice, it doesn't do much. There's no development, no complexity. It's like the lemonade of whisky.

    • Nose
Slightly sweet. Malt. It feels like graininess a bit. Fruits in the background. Vanilla. It is not too complicated.
    • Taste
Pretty Malty again. Fruits in the background. A trace of acidity. Lots of vanilla. A trace of spices.
    • Finish
Slight bitterness. Then some sweets. A slight warming up. Malt. Vanilla. A trace of fruit. Slight acidity. Medium-length finish.

This is mostly about the mixture of spices and fruit, with apples being the obvious note. It’s not the most complex whisky in the world, and it doesn’t pretend to be either, but it does have a lovely ‘freshness’ to it. For a less than €30 bottle of whisky, this brings enough to the table and holds enough weight to be considered a proper, enjoyable, decent dram.
    • Nose
      82 82
mild spices with notes of nutmeg and ginger, fresh and stewed apples with a pleasant fresh apple vinegar note making for a pleasant fresh sourness to this. While not being in the same ballpark, the idea of a spicy apple cider isn’t a million miles away in my opinion. Soft honey and vanilla, grassy-floral notes, something herbaceous and floral, like camomile.
    • Taste
      81 81
The palate brings those same spice and apple notes, although the sweetness is more outspoken now with fruit, brown sugar, icing sugar and vanilla, with a hint of oak, all in a medium full mouthfeel. This may ‘only’ be 40% ABV, but it doesn’t show it, also due to a bit of an alcohol nip.
    • Finish
      76 76
The finish is fairly short, with mild sweetness and spices, and it’s probably where this starts to struggle a bit.

Easy drinking whisky - 4 year old whisky that punches above its weight. Nose has strong orange. Palate has soft vanilla creamy and buttery mouthfeel. Not much complexity - quite same after 3 sips. Oak in the finish.

  9. thijs100 scored this whisky 80 points Connoisseur

    Perfectly decent throughout.
    • Nose
Malty (drifting in the direction of malt wine genever) and sweet with touches of oak shavings and plenty of cornflakes, followed by caramel and some soft forest fruits. Finally a whiff of cardboard.
    • Taste
Rather a creamy mouthfeel at such a low abv. Soft oak spices, somewhat tannic and slightly bitter, but the subtle sweetness bring balance. Syrupy caramel, a touch of honey and rye.
    • Finish
Lingering spices, bitter oranges. Medium in length.

I wrote a whole article on this on my website but the main point is, this is a light and delicate 'single malt' whisky that is equivalent to 10-year-old Scotch line for $30.

    • Nose
That beeswax! Great notes of tropical fruits, caramel with malty and sourdough like yeasty character.
    • Taste
Classic creamy Paul John texture. Bourbon like honey sweetness with baking spices, barley notes. Incredibly juicy for a 40%abv whisky
    • Finish
Surprisingly longer than expected. A medium to long finish with velvety texture. Smooth, round with orange zest, vanilla and mango.

Not really my taste, I prefer Sherry and Peated, but surprisingly good. I didn't know Indian whisky and I wasn't expecting something so sweet and tasty. Fruity, cereal, and salted toffey in the end.

Mild, sweet, a little boring. A tasty summer whisky.

  15. SirMattsmore scored this whisky 78 points Newbie

Very complex tastes like oak and wood but also fruits and even dirty things like rubber , it was a nice experience but wouldn’t buy it again.

A steal for the price. I paid the equivalent of about 18 euros for a 750 ml bottle.

Nice fruity smell with lots of vanilla and that woody/cardboardy smell i get from many paul johns
Plenty of honey and vanilla on the palate. Orange jam, citrus notes. Very sweet.
    A short spicy finish.
Compared this head to head with glenmorangy 10. I liked this better.

    Funny smell.
Slightly spicy, lots of cereals, straw.

Tasty ok, although it is somehow meaningless.
    Some oak, spices, sloe.
    Dry and bitter.

You do not have to have that ...

  19. xerxes_m scored this whisky 79 points Newbie

I'm so happy because today I found my friend.
    • Nose
      Smells like teen spirit.
    • Taste
Yeah, I guess it made me smile. I found it hard, it was hard to find. Oh well, whatever, nevermind.
    • Finish
Doused in mud, soaked in bleach, as you want it to be.

  20. grinface scored this whisky 76 points Expert Senior

Not much to find in this one for me. I think there was some coffee and mild spices. And sweetness. Overall really flat.

  21. Sandman scored this whisky 71 points Connoisseur

Manure, nutmeg, cardamom, honey, bees, vanilla, peach, apricot and cardboard. And with a few drops of water a little pepper, walnuts, oak, green apple and lemon. After 30 minutes in the glass a smell of malted barley and bowl of beer.

  22. Max70 scored this whisky 80 points Connoisseur

I appreciated the nose, sweet and complex, a lot of different flavors. A good price/quality ratio.
    • Nose
      81 81
Just after the opening, the alcohol was too present, but after a couple of minutes, this disappears and all the sweet notes appears. Fruit flowers, vanilla, honey and wheat biscuits.
    • Taste
      79 79
Less pleasant than nose, an hint of white pepper mixed with malt and currant
    • Finish
      80 80
The sweetness disappear fast, almonds and wood at the end

  23. Dre73 scored this whisky 80 points Connoisseur

Strange kind of fruity nose, some hard to define sweetness, but also some kind of rubber or plastic-like influences.
In the body and finish it didn't get any better.
Not that is really bad whisky, but somehow this one doesn't work for me. It's pretty full for a 40% Abv, it has pretty much tastes, but I simply don't like those tastes very much.
I like the Brilliance much better.
