Way too sooty and flat. Bought it as a graduation present for myself and was thoroughly disappointed

Smoky, as Islay can be. Peaty, creamy, strong.

Still very tasty as an uncomplicated daily-dram, of which you can take one more dram with 40% ABV.
With time and oxygen (bottle well half empty) it becomes creamier, sweeter and less smoky.
Compared to the more expensive Port Askaig 8yo (previously tasted) full enjoyment at a good 15% lower price - QC remains clearly the best for me among the not overpriced Laphroaigs

Smoke, phenolic smoke, some oak, clear notes of vanilla and sweetness.
As the bottle empties, it becomes harmoniously balanced.
    • Taste
      89 89
creamy, vanilla-sweet mouthfeel with phenolic smoke that takes a pleasant back seat as the bottle empties. In addition, maritime notes and light oak spices. Very drinkable.

good medium length, everything that nose and taste promised

Too bad it's not bottled at 46% abv.
    • Nose

Ash, campfire smoke and slightly herbal. Medicinal notes usual of Islay peat. Honey. Not very complex.
    • Taste
      73 73
Really thin mouthful, watery, on smoke, burnt caramel and shellfish. It would really have gained from a higher abv.
    • Finish
      75 75
Brief, but the peat remains a wee longer than the rest.
