Sherry; fruity; sweet; spices; a touch of oak; the sweetness is difficult to determine more precisely (possibly malt?); behind it a hint of citrus
    • Taste
      82 82
Spicy, sweet at first; then get a little sharp; beautiful oak; is minimal bitter but has a nice spiciness. Sherry is here; Citrus comes through again (orange zest); get dark afterwards (dark chocolate)
      Generally, but rather sherry-heavy
    • Finish
      85 85
first fruity, then spicy; Oak, sherry; runs warm down; Oak spicy remains; Dried fruit; dark chocolate; again some fruit; a touch of citrus; generally minimally bitter at the end, but does not dry.

For lovers of coffees with milk. The presence on the palate is nice but sorely lacking in fantasy and variety

it does have a rather medical note, but not as in cough syrup, but more like a Swedish herbal remedy sort of concoction.. nice, but far from outstanding.

thank you SV you bring quality, value and integrity together - yet again a huge win vs official bottlings. in this case, the 12 yo Manzanilla finish with ID: 92200

    Cold

This very dark Tobermory was bottled by Signatory in their famous Un-Chill Filtered series, but for Kirsch Whisky, the German importer with HQ in Syke, some 15 kilometers south of Bremen. Will you look at that color?

The sherry cask has clearly put its foot down and offers sultanas and gingerbread, milk chocolate with nuts and candied sugar, while the mildly umami and somewhat green character of Tobermory shines through beautifully. Some woodspices and a hint of blood oranges. Dark, sweet and green in a nutshell.

The arrival is rather soft. Mildly oily, but immediately very sweet. Honeysweet in fact. This is almost cough syrup, but the kind that makes you go ‘I wish I had a cold’. Delicious. Dark chocolate, plums, raisins, fresh fig and lots of candied syrup. Again a note of citrus, but more candied now with some zest. Hint of walnuts too. I find this impressively rich and very pleasing.

The finish starts fruity and sweet, but then quickly turns a bit bitter, albeit without drying the mouth completely. Nice!

Very good stuff indeed, thanks no doubt to a very active sherry cask.

An insane sherry bomb. And at the price ... Top.
    • Nose
Violent sherry. Damp cellar, forest floor. Dark fruit, leather. Blackberry, brown sugar, leather polish and ammonia. Always molasses and honey. Amarena cherry, ginger. I could smell it forever.
    • Taste
Sherry, molasses, salmiak again. Salt liquorice and oak spice. Espresso, dark chocolate and pipe tobacco. Some honey and orange. Dry.
    • Finish
Long and warm. Tobacco, leather, sherry. Dark fruit and dark chocolate.
