The benchmark of great Oloroso matured whiskies. Big, bold flavours that are presented perfectly. The alcohol is so well integrated making this very drinkable.
    • Nose
Huge sherry influence on the nose. Deep dark notes of raisins, plums, dates and berries. I get classic Oloroso Sherry nuttiness with hazelnuts and walnuts. Oodles of Muscovado sugar and burnt caramel sweetness just about come through. Notes of lovely dark chocolate. A slight savouriness about it as well. Somewhat dusty elements. The years of oak influence is present as well with notes of dark tobacco and old leather with a touch of drying oak tannins. Classic Christmas spices of cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg. Quite herbal with thyme and minty aniseed.
    • Taste
For a drinking strength whisky, the mouthfeel is thick and oily. The dark sherry notes from the nose carry through, the dark fruits are very present on the palate. More raisins, maraschino cherries and juicy plums. Almost a thick plum jam. The nutty influence continues here. Not as syrupy sweet as the nose initially suggested but still a good amount of toffee and brown sugar. This is then well balanced by the oak spice giving it some black pepper warmth. The influence of the wood is present throughout with some slightly drying tannins. Dark chocolate becomes more cocoa or espresso like.
    • Finish
The dark chocolate and espresso notes are taking over from the fruit here with just enough sweetness to support them. The lingering black pepper spice leave a gentle prickle on the tongue and tannins continue as well. Medium to long in length and very satisfying.

    WhiskyBase#005:GLENDRONACH_ALLARDICE[March, 2020]-90/100-

Allardice - the flagship of Glendronach. Named after the founder James Allardice. People say, due to its closing during 1996 and 2002: It is even 23 years old (on a 2018 bottling). It is the last Single Malt of the core range which is only blended from oloroso casks. On the nose I have a strong sweetness, which comes from the sherry cask and lots of fruits complements with dates and figs. It is very complex and the alcohol is very well integrated with its 46%. On the tongue, you have a taste explosion. You get the typical christmas spices, like allspice or clove. Then, it continues with a dark chocolate with a piece of orange. The palate is overwhelmed by its complexity. The finish is strong and long. Towards the end, I have a walnut taste. Dark chocolate, leather and coffee notes end this unique malt. The strong oak is present till the end.

    Wow this cherry note, wonderful.

Beautifully set and wonderfully matured, but not overripe.

    Exactly my thing

Tasted in two times, the first time just after having opened the bottle, and then the day after.
While the first approach was versus a quite "close" whisky, the second day it was a party of scents and flavors. Water and time in the glass give it the possibility to express at the best
