On April 13th at Nikka Blender's Bar I had the chance to taste the new anniversary malts. The presentation is lovely, matching box sets with a lovely booklet to browse while tasting. I had just tasted Yoichi Anniversary malt before jotting these notes for the
    Miyagikyo version:
dirtier in a great way, old madeira, the cellars containing old madeira casks cooking in, old castles, ancient pubs that once were ground level and are now 6 ft under the street, forest floor of rotten wood, fern and morels, moss and little moldy acorns. Tastes like that with adding a puree of every dried fruit soaked in oils made from old pressed leaves and dried kelp, just a hint of burning wet wood washed ashore at high tide after a storm. Poetic whisky, I'm happy.

    Tasted with Maltandbean 04.26.20.

Peat is very woven in and this is very fruity and easy drinking. We had tasted this after a 81’ Zawa and the lack of distillate power compared to the zawa was very interesting.

I only tried a half dram so my notes aren’t super detailed but this thing floored me. Amazing and if you’re buying stuff that’s in this price range already it’s well worth it

hint of peat. Minty , nice leather, red berries. Gorgeous and elegant. Meaty
    • Taste

meaty, crystallized candied ginger, elegant old sherry reminiscent to the greatest old speyside, ripe red berries, Minty going into finish
    • Finish

very long, caramel by the truckload. Strawberry glaze, nice oak spice but very gentle. Very long

    Miyagikyo Limited Edition 2019: 2000/1990/1980/1969
    48%, unfiltered cold and unstained.
    700 bottles total.

Mahogany dress fat and sticky to the glass.

    The nose.
Large dose of sherry, softwood followed by spices: clove, cinnamon, nutmeg; bitter cocoa and very old leather, black tobacco and dried fruits in shambles.
Then touch hinoki cedar and pine resin. It's black.

    The mouth.
Huge concentration with bitter orange, tobacco, still burning black tar and burnt wood, discretely smoked but the peat is there (Miyagikyo old), black honeys such as fir and chestnut, memory wood comes back with the pine resin and candied fruit of the citron.
    A black Bowmore!
Spice with cigar box, bitter cocoa, liquorice.
In the end, some non-green tannins.
It's very dry with a tangy touch of rhubarb and red fruits.

    The final
very long on bitter cocoa and old wood with acidulous dry fruit bursts.
Patinated by a beautiful lacquered wood.

Superb achievement where the former weighs his weight,
a maturity and thickness never touched on a Miyagikyo.
Crazy complexity, oily and so fresh.
like what to assemble 50 years with the youngest is not a heresy.
    exceptional, really.
    but at what cost.

If you had to give it a subjective rating, it would be a 94.

To be honest...when I saw the pricetag, NAS and bottle design...I did not expect much. Had a lot of old Miya and Yoichi SC...beautiful drams, but that? Okay, you guy s know me...Chichibu addicted since the beginning, long before the hype. Had that Black Bow....äh...Miya side by side of the new CCB from LMDW...hell yeah, the Miya is worth every penny..stunning dram, oldstyle, enormous complexity, oily, sweet, dark....incredible dram and as good as the Yoichi sister release. Beat my beloved CCB this time...applause..:-)

    A super assembly.
    • Nose

    • Taste
On the palate it is round, sweet on cherry, plum, cocoa, leather, grenadine syrup. Wood, chocolate. Oily.
    • Finish
Superb finish on dry camphor fruit, cocoa.
