Again, just wondering if my bottle has the same whisky in it..? I doubted a bit as I find over € 120 a shitload of money for just a 14 yo whisky, heck, I find € 100 actually too much for a 14 yo, but House of McCallum, well, let's say, there might be some expectations there..? Port cask matured was the trigger to buy and I opened the bottle straight after delivery and I had it breath for some hours. Nosing this it is actually very hard to detect a hint of ex port cask. It's more like a refill ex sherry cask, and not a 1st refill but a second or 3rd at it's best. Aka; virtually no cask influence. Shame. Tasting this one actually only the alcohol pops up very dominating. Some floral Laddie typicals and, of course, some very young baby puke. The milky style. Sounds bad, but isn't. The finish is what you might expect after the dissapointing nose and taste; short and boring.
This ex port cask could have worked, but it should be left in it's cask way longer to have a chance of getting in the 88 point range. But at this pirce level I expect 89-90 points and this will never reach that level.

Immediate notes of cereals, which is usual at Bruichladdich. On the other hand, for 14 years spent in Porto cask, the influence is minimal! Where then is it a finish? Strange. Nevertheless, the opening gives it peaty notes, and a hint of red fruit manages to make its way.
In the mouth, extremely ample, very solid on these supports: cereals-peat-spices.

    Enthusiasm 4/5

The first impression of the nose scares me a little, the dominant cheese note does not bode well ... But, the longer the Bruichladdich breathes, the more harmonious and fruity it becomes. A 14-year-old Bruichladdich from a Port Cask, exactly this combination made me forget the relatively high price for a moment when buying. Everyone has to decide for themselves whether the price is justified, I find this bottling very interesting and varied. Right now, hazelnuts and almonds are sticking to the palate again, the initially dominant note of cheese relativises over time and harmonises perfectly with the red and fermented berries. Tastes and likes!

    • Nose
The Bruichladdich shines old pink with a reddish shimmer in the Premium Snifter, on the glass wall long "legs" pull their endless tracks back into the glass. Smoked mountain cheese and hints of mineral peat rise, sweet dried grapes and berries are released from the dominant note of cheese, caramel and toffee melt together. Strawberries and a hint of cherries, raspberries and vanilla, malt and cereals ... The longer the laddie breathes, the more the cheese note disappears and fruity cereal notes appear.
    • Taste
The Bruichladdich flows malty over the tongue with a fine note of peat. Pepper massages the tongue, sweet and dried berries stick to the palate, slightly musty, decayed wood tones and fermented fruits come into their own. Another sip gently flows through the mouth, peat and cheese follow, malty grain ends in earthy peat and sweet caramel, the peppery heat warms the cheeks and the palate. Slowly the saliva is stimulated, withered wood elements and a hint of citrus fruits end with fresh mint and grapefruit on the tongue. Tobacco and hazelnuts are minimal ...
    • Finish
Hazelnuts and almond shells rest on the tongue, malt and sweet fruit notes stick to the palate while ripe strawberries combine with lemon peel and a few splashes of grapefruit juice. Mint rises and refreshes the palate, hazelnuts and malt stimulate saliva, minimally there is a hint of smoky peat ...

with water: it tolerates water well, the pepper notes disappear, the port becomes rounder and the laddie gets through better

Conclusion: beautiful Laddie, who is not beaten by the port and works very well with water. No idea why some are writing here that port barrel would not be recognizable. There were four of us blind in the glass, and everyone agreed that this can only be port. Yes, the port flavors don't hit your nose directly, but that's what makes this thing so exciting, because the port still leaves room for the laddie behind it.

The nose has an overdose of cheese nibs ( the macaroni style curvy ones )

Those cheese nibs are penentrating into the tastebuds. Although it is clearly portwood.
