Whisky Reviews for Ballechin 2007 SV

5 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 86.51 points

I like the smell immediately, complex, independent and stimulating.
Also the taste and the finish convince.
The Bordeaux barrel has given the whisky an interesting touch that complements the smoke very well. This fits together well and gives complexity. Nice whisky.
    • Nose
Sweet, fruity smoke, peach, vanilla, a touch of raspberry, then a little later wet, meringue wood, a hint of sage, a slight ginger sharpness
    • Taste
Noticeable taste, medium body, decent pepper, followed by sweet peach juice, the smoke is much more restrained than in the nose, a little malt, latte with sugar, then suddenly spicy, barbecue sauce
    • Finish
light oak and strong smoke, sweet, the memory of the peach juice, tender bittern notes in the interplay with smoke, long

The nose is really beautiful and all in all there was a nice balance between fruit and smoke
    • Nose
      88 88
The whisky appears fresh in the nose. The smoke is also not too present. Associations of raspberry and vanilla are particularly noticeable. There is also a certain herbiness.
    • Taste
      87 87
Peppery at first, followed by a nice sweetness, red fruits and light smoke.
    • Finish
      87 87
The smoke is most evident in the outlet. It is also slightly earthy. Over time, the raspberries and herbs flash through again.

I generally like Ballechin very well, because the smoke is always very well incorporated and the symbiosis with Edradour is delicious. Here from Bordeaux barrel. An interesting mix, nicely worked out.
    • Nose
      89 89
Fresh and pleasant smoke, perfumed sweetness with a sour note (gooseberry, kiwi, citrus fruit).

With a little water: A maritime hearty note is added, somehow reminiscent of pizza / pasta, smoke remains well incorporated.
    • Taste
      87 87
Strong oak, stronger smoke, barely sweet.
    • Finish
      88 88
Creamy and mild, but not short, but very friendly tickling the palate. Oak still holds on softly and invites you to the next sip.
