    • Nose
Fruit syrup, wax of a rare roundness! Very aromatic with too sweet creme brulee, cognac, riesling and it is getting cooler! Wow!
    • Taste
We find the profile of Clynelish more agreed but very well executed: wax, spices, thin fruits.
    • Finish
More mineral, drier, but still very aromatic with sweet spices that sparkle. What aromatic variety, what a change throughout the tasting!

It will be a heretical remark for many, but the Clynelish never make me salivate in advance, the profile wax + fruit too tenuous is clearly not my favorite. But here I was surprised and transported.

SMWS Tasting Notes: An aged Loire Chenin Blanc poured next to a well-oiled vintage Ducati. Then these notes of petrichor; fresh forest floor and - inevitably - a fat, slithering and luxurious waxiness. Wee notes of salted almond, cream soda, wet dogs and a further saltiness in the form of cured ham. Water brings out fruity bath salts, ripe kumquats, lychee and fragrant sandalwood. There's a bristle of old French moustache wax in the background. The palate is initially saline and soft; an elegant and textural waxy coating with coastal mineralic bluster, suggestions of a potent Turckheim Riesling and some buttery toast. Dilution gives gloopy olive and mineral oils, camphor, beach foam and touch of brake fluid before a lengthy, wonderfully textured and suitably fruity finish. Drink while listening to Frank Zappa!

    • Nose
      90 90
Filigree and complex, fresh lemon zest, paraffin, mild ginger, Thai basil, echoes of salt ... with water, the paraffin becomes even stronger and it becomes more Clynelish-typical
    • Taste
      88 88
fruity sweetness, Riesling, mineral ... with water even more notes of dry white wine
    • Finish
      89 89
Dry, dry, light afterburn, long-lasting ... water virtually unchanged, minimally shorter
