The Glenturret distillery was recently sold by Edrington to French wine company Art & Terroir. SW say: The deal includes both the Glenturret distillery and single malt brand, as well as some maturing stock, although Edrington will retain the Famous Grouse brand. Given Glenturret has been pushed hard as ‘The Heart of Famous Grouse’ and ‘The Home of the Famous Grouse Experience’, where/how do Edrington go to fill this heart and maintain the experience?

N: I find peated whisky the best when I don’t notice the peat head-on, rather what it adds to the party, and there’s plenty of descriptors for a shopping list. That aside, we’ve a base profile of sugared & buttered breads, much like Lardy cake.
T: Again, what’s most striking is not the peat itself, but what the peat conjures. Octomore’s do that beautifully. This is no Octomore however, this is competent, clean & savoury< sweet SMWS-styled whisky with an instant oily/chewy appeal.
F: I get a touch of vegetal-fresh though it remains largely savoury < sweet.
C: Good vibes. This is a whisky I definitely want another dram of, if not a bottle.

Notes von der Website der SMWS: https://www.smws.com/roasted-pineapples-and-rejuvenated-road-surfaces

Ausgabepreis im März 2019: 48,00 GBP

"Imagine roasting whole pineapples with black pepper and rum as well as chestnuts on the side of the road which is being repaired by laying fresh tarmac. The taste neat was like that - pineapple, sweet and juicy, but at the same time sooty and heavily charred, practically scorched! Water changed the equation somewhat; we felt we were cooking with a variety of different kind of seaweed getting salty, sweet, and smoky as well as herbal (herbes de Provence) aromas. On the palate a complete transformation as we got served honey-glazed smoked ham, salted chocolate almond toffees and a glass of smoky sweet Vermouth."
