Whisky Reviews for Loch Lomond 1990 WD

11 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 84.76 points

  1. dRambo scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

no miss notes, reminds me of the style of the 17yo organic, but is heavier and volmundiger, but does not reach its super PLV
    • Nose
      87 87
boiled apples and pears with cloves - very syrupy - initially with a slight fermentation note, but which soon fades, in addition sweet citrus notes, dried dates with orange peel, mint oil, mountain pine, extremely dusty wood note, some glue, dried sunflowers, autumn leaves,
    • Taste
      87 87
Zitruszesten, sweet, banana juice, fried banana chips, a touch of gum, licorice, resin, vanilla, tree juice, baking cocoa - it looks very dense and aromatic - is harmonious but somewhat edgy - especially on the palate
    • Finish
      86 86
warm, oily, hazelnut in dark chocolate, grapefruit peel, quite long and subliminally sweet

  2. Segens did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

Probably too long in the cask as dry and grassy - also the palate has no real character.. it is ok but for 28y Loch Lomond you expect a blast.

  3. Othorion scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

    • Nose
      88 88
Pear compote, applesauce, vanilla sauce, melons, sweet orange juice, lemons, pine resin, cloves, lemon balm, a hint of peppermint
    • Taste
      87 87
Creamy, walnuts, cocoa, bananas, tart orange marmalade, licorice, vanilla pudding, a little ginger
    • Finish
      86 86
Ginger, walnuts, dark chocolate and orange zest

Meadow fruit (apple and pear). I also mean something kohlrabi. Sugar beets. Vanilla Semolina pudding. Cereal notes. Muesli but also flour. Then very dominant, and for me unpleasant, citrus notes. They work somehow chemically or like a citrus cleaner.

That's not for me. Obviously, this kind of citrus fruit does not seem to be for me. Seems to be sensitive to it somehow.

Grassy and leathery - not the ideal combo for me
    • Nose
      81 81
Very grassy and green fruits, vegetables, also new leather couch, honeydew
    • Taste
      83 83
Punchy, oily, honey, good sweetness, yellow fruits, peaches, pineapple, hints of wet wood, pepper, little leathery
    • Finish
      82 82
      Long, warm, a tad bitter

Loch Lomond 1990 Whisky Doris WID: 126731
Abv. 48.7%, Bourbon Hogshead, 28 years
Nose: set and dense nose, but also closed, cereals, bright yellow fruits, not nearly as lively as the '17s, light vanilla, makes something with water and makes the light fruits look better
Taste: malty, cotton candy, white pepper, canned peaches, the good 48% are on the palate very good, with water, unfortunately, only powdered sugar (very tasty, but not really captivating in the long run)
Finish: medium long with lots of sweetness
Conclusion: A round thing you can expect at 28 years oh. Unfortunately, the malt is a little closed to me and even after multiple tastings, water drowns him very quickly. For 100 euros, this would be a great malt, but 145 I would not pay, 28 years, unfortunately, have their price.
