Another proof that Rachel is breaking new ground! A very good and elegant malt, without question, but not what I love about Glendronach.
The "new" Glendronach style is lighter and more flowery-elegant and the beautiful heavy sherry boards are unfortunately unfortunately a thing of the past!
    • Nose
      89 89
Elegant, filigree sherry, juice orange, a hint of lavender, rose oil, Mon Cherie, raisins, light grapes, vanilla, subtle marzipan, alcohol is not to be felt, grape nut chocolate, red apples,
    • Taste
      89 89
Creamy, dark chocolate, caramel sauce, nougat, English orange marmalade, candied ginger, effervescent powder, roasted coffee beans, lavender, pepper, pipe tobacco in the background, walnuts
    • Finish
      88 88
Drying, spicy, roasted walnuts, pepper, dark chocolate, medium

This one may require a shift of mindset when you're used to the 1993 single casks. It's much more subtle with more room for the distillery profile. Not inferior, but just a completely different kind of malt.
    • Nose
      89 89
Caramel, apple, vanilla, yellow raisin, popcorn, hazelnut, ginger and cherry.
    • Taste
      92 92
Yellow raisin, caramel, hazelnut, apple, gingerbread, honey and marzipan.
    • Finish
      91 91
Gingerbread, apple, caramel, mocha and raisin.

Quite simply one of the best and tastiest Glendronachs I've tried so far.
    Balanced and balanced complex.
Together a lot of fruits, berries, dark stone fruit, raisins and sultanas, vanilla, dark caramel, toffee, spices and herbs, grass, malt, mint, Mediterranean smells, oak wood influence spice.
    Spicy, full-bodied and intense.
    Really great.

    Nose:
Powdered sugar, liquid milk chocolate, a little espresso, hazelnuts, tough honey, raisins soaked in rum. Coffee pomace and rich sherry influence. A little oak and a hint of polish. Spices complete the likeable picture. A rather gentle aroma game without mistakes, which gets better and better the longer you leave the malt in the glass. Very nice.

    Taste:
Unfortunately watery. In terms of taste, this Glendronach doesn't really offer much. The typical sherry-nutty-chocolate-espresso-vanilla is easy (!) But unfortunately too shy for me. Too shy! That is vlt. the weakest glendronach in taste that I've had in a glass for a long time. The 12er OA is much more interesting and intense. Quite pleasant, bright and subtly fruity, it's leisurely towards the finish. A little lukewarm cocoa (i.e. not powder, but cocoa powder mixed in milk) provides a pleasant, sweet basic character.
The taste is nice, does not put anyone away, but shouldn't be really interesting for anyone either. Reminds me a little of a Macallan 12.

For me there is far too little rich sherry influence. Where are the dark fruits, the raisins, the figs and dates? Lord where?

    finish:
Short finish with few new impressions. The tasting is irrelevant.

    Conclusion / points:
As before with the HP Triskelion, I am disappointed here with a relatively good nose in taste. The drop in the HP was even more blatant. The nose of the Glendronach is less complex than the HP, but not quite as weak in taste (but that means nothing at all ...).

I always try to ignore the price and the PLV for my notes. Here and at the mentioned HP I am extremely (!) Scolded. I pull myself together and only try to evaluate the aromas and tastes.

    (Tasted blind)
NOSE: Leather, a solventy note, sweet wine, wine acidity, dried red frutis, old butter, old wood, old leather armchair (90-91p)
TASTE: Quite rich arrival, medium dry, sweet sherry and wine notes, a bit buttery, some meatiness. With time more fruitiness as well as butter toffee. Medium bodied mouthfeel. (90p)
EXIT: Quite a bit of wood tannic pepperiness, just on the right side of too much (87p)
    SCORE: 89-90 points.

    • Taste
Cocoa, leather, baking and cola spice, ash, hazelnuts, herbal, sherry and a touch of earthy roasted malty notes.
    • Finish
Med-long -> Dark fruit, cocoa, spice and ash

I can‘t make head nor tail of this...to me it is absolutely disappointing! Nice nutty notes and oak but it definitely lacks the depth of the ”older“ Glendronachs!
Sorry, but personally I don‘t like the new style of Glendronach!
Way too expensive for what you get!

A tough comparison to the myriad of stellar 1993 single casks. I feel like this lacks a bit of a punch, while still displaying a great breadth of flavor and aroma. All these impressions line up well with Glendronach’s house style. Perhaps the low strength invites you for more even quicker – a calculated outcome for better sales? I kid of course. Good stuff!
    • Nose
      91 91
‘Tis the stuff! A mélange of fig, honeyed date, and sugary rhubarb cake. The oak is present, but you need to search for it. Cucumber, honeydew, and heavy spice – nutmeg, glove, and some ground coriander.
    • Taste
      87 87
Pretty tame and gentle arrival for its 48.2% ABV. Rhubarb pie, mentholated tannins, cocoa powder, and orange jam.
    • Finish
      89 89
Medium. Dark chocolate, black tea, and buttered Sunday buns.
