Not that complex and deep. But 46% NAS that might not be the right category of whisky if you are searching for that ;-)
For smoke- and charcoalheads this might be a treat with good value

A lot of smoke. Feels young. Pears. Peet and iodine. Also dusty wood and dry soil.
    • Taste
      81 81
Rather flat with sweetness, peat and lots of smoke.
    • Finish
      83 83
Still smoke an coal are dominant. A little salt is added. This marks the highlight of this dram for me.

      Solid, strong and full.

Rubber, ham, coal, bbq, wood, burnt and smoldering campfire, ashes, bacon and spicy. Also salty sea air and some sour Granny Smith apples.

This is how an Islay whisky can certainly smell.
    • Taste
      85 85
Smoke, peat, roasted campfire, roasted caramel, vanilla, oily with a little salt and pepper and a very smooth taste.
    • Finish
      85 85
Vessels, rubber, ash, campfire and peat. Caramel and white tart grape with apples. Honey soft, a beautiful whisky that is worth twice its money! A nice whisky to have in the cupboard if you like Islay whisky. The finish lasts quite a long time.

Strong, smoky, honest. This is how an Islay whisky should be!
    • Nose
Heavy smoke, extinguished campfire and smoked ham. Behind it sugared citrus fruits and salty sea air. Nice.
    • Taste
Strong and oily, sweet citrus fruits, pepper. Salt and ashes, later smoked ham.
    • Finish
Campfire smoke and ashes, orange and caramel. Long and comfortable.

Very pleasing. He hides the missing age very well and can certainly compete with the standard bottlings of the large Islay distilleries.
    • Nose
      81 81
      Neat smoke, nice maritime notes.
    • Taste
      82 82
Nice combination of subtle sweetness with a little salt
    • Finish
      82 82
      Medium length

Day 19 of Lockdown - 5th April - I am not a vegetarian, but I don't eat bats, dogs and cats!!!! Calling the powerful President in China to banned this for good and send those weirdos to capital punishment.

N- Sooty, sweet fruit of ripe peach with mineral nuance. Fresh grassy pine smokes, tobacco and eucalyptus. Whiff of fish sauce ad whelks lingers. Coastal with sweet scents. (88/22)

P- Solidly integrated ashy paper smokes filled with earthy reeks and candy sweets. Interchanging fruitiness with underlying coastal notes. (87/21)

F- Medium long, pines, sweet ashy smokes and coastal, like the good weight that stays on palate overtimes. Can't complaint for a NAS, well batched with adequate flavors to reflect those Islay goodies at relatively reasonable entry level price. (87/21)

    B/B- 88/22

    Weighted Rate - 86pt

Smooth, delicate and tasty whisky. Reminds me Laphroaig a little. A little bit simple. But quite good and deserves to take place before dinner.
    • Nose
      85 85
Iodine, medicine, peaty smoke, roasted barley, citruses, stewed apples, vanilla.
    • Taste
      88 88
      Echoes nose.
    • Finish
      81 81
      Deep barley malt, citric zest.

I suppose this NAS is quite young, but for that kind of price, it is a solid dram. Easy to sip, the peat and citrus work well together.

    Color is Ice wine (Eiswein)

Yep, that’s an Islay, no question here. Islay maritime peat nose, iodine, salt, oak and citrus, and a smoked meat note of bacon.
    • Taste
      85 85
The arrival is sweet and citrusy, then you can recognize peat, pepper, ginger, then fruits with apples and grapefruit, before moving to burnt caramel and oak bitterness.
    • Finish
      83 83
Medium long, on peat and citrus

C: A quick smoke before lunch. This conjures memories of the official CL 12yo. At £33 [April ’19], it’s superbly competitive.
