Surprisingly full sherryn nose - without missing the own Glenfarclas style - the higher alcohol content of 46% instead of the 40% or 43% otherwise used in the standard range has a positive effect. Very nice standard bottling. I also like the taste and finish. Dangerously tasty and you can deal with it more intensively. For the current price, this is a thoroughly recommendable standard bottling.

An intense combination of classic sherry aromas such as dark red but also dried fruits. The orange notes typical of Glenfarclas - also with a juicy fruit acid - together with a good portion of honey and toffee are immediately apparent in the nose. Very full, even more intense than the 21y - seems to have gotten a good batch. The oak also shows up with a nice set spiciness in the background. The 46% are well integrated.
    • Taste
      86 86
The malt presents itself with a slightly creamy mouthfeel. After a very nice initial sweetness, it quickly becomes sparkling - like sherbet powder and ginger. The fruit parts from the nose are clearly evident in the taste, with it now more in the direction of red ripe apples and oranges. The dried fruit parts from the nose are rather less present. Towards the finish, there are also wood influences from the oak barrel.
    • Finish
      87 87
Leathery and light tobacco nuances from the barrel resonate in the finish. Dark chocolate completes the finish. The slight bitter note and the aromatic oak can be tasted in the mouth for a medium to long time.

  6. KB201 did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

The 15-year-old from Glenfarclas is bottled at a stronger 46% ABV.

Very balanced dram. I like it being 46 ABV - the 17 y.o. with 43 ABV seems to be fading away a bit compared to this one.

    Spicy, dried fruit, walnuts

Appearance: Medium to deep amber-orange, leggy.

Nose: Raisins / sherry, vanilla, caramel, malt cookies, ginger, cinnamon,

Palate: Lovely sherry, raisins, vanilla, oak, caramel, malt sugar, ginger, touch of apple, honey. Sweet but of course a bit hot, but the body is much nicer than in their lower abv expressions. Lovely maltiness.

Finish: Prickly, peppery, cinnamon and cardamum, malt sugar, raisins.

With Water: Needs a good addition. Becomes less fiery, milder, sweeter, more vanilla and spice.

Overall: Much fuller bodied than other expressions. This one is my favorite so far. Rich, lovely maltiness and sherry character. Also, stunning value for ¥5200.

Nice nutty and sherryy nose and tongue. With 46% he has the right drinking strength, water should never be added, that makes him thin.

A great classic in whisky aged in sherry casks.
One of the best value for money.

At the beginning of the apple, then the grapes and finally the red fruits.
    • Taste
      89 89
Very sweet and very fruity still on the red fruits. We feel the influence of sherry casks and wines. A little chocolate. Alcohol is really well integrated.
    • Finish
      87 87
Longer and more intense than the youngest and even the 18 years old. I just love it.

Still one of the best affordable whiskies.
    • Nose
Ripe apple, raisins, aromatic, chocolate cookies, pineapple juice, fresh sherry, just so good.
    • Taste
Smooth and oily, salted caramel, rich and a little tannin, sweet toffee, melted chocolates.
    • Finish
Medium to long, sherry, winey, wood spices, slightly bitter, characteristic walnut liqueur.
