    • Nose
Simple caramel, green tea marked. A little alcohol. Made less than 10 years.
    • Taste
Caramel, greenery ... soft and pleasant. Rum noticeable.
A little flat, not very explosive.
    • Finish
Long and intense, but without development, too linear.

    Caroni

The newest Glenburgie by Asta Morris – the sixth already – was finished by Bert on a Caroni rum cask. That rum, he had previously bottled himself under the Rasta Morris label. He cut it to 52%, enabling us to compare it to the 5th Glenburgie he had bottled a few months back from his Foursquare rum cask. I have put them head-to-head.

At first, I get a touch of rubber on the nose, but it evaporates before it disturbs. Then some typical notes of vanilla, honey, white fruit and grass. Secondly I do get something special that I can only attribute to the Caroni rum, I suppose: banana, caramel and frangipane cake. This one is just a tad rounder than his predecessor.

It’s a bit more difficult on the palate, though. Next to the very typical notes of white fruit and pepper, I again get some rubber, albeit in the back. Luckily that is quickly replaced by some quasi-exotic fruit like banana and mango. It sports a little less spiciness, but all the more fruit.

The finish is much longer, almost piquant, but at the end equally dry – if not more so – than the previous release.

It’s good fun to find these two Glenburgie that, while distilled at the same time, but finished in another cask, are very similar yet different. It’s very little nuances. Like its twin, you can buy this for around 65 EUR. I have a slight preference for the one finished on the Foursquare cask.

Very sweet one, but still very enjoyable. To bottle this at 52 seems as a good choice, lower Abv would make this one too sweet and weak probably.

Fruity, peach, sweet, vanilla, honey. Pretty prominent alcohol, full nose. Some applepie-feeling suddenly.
    • Taste
      84 84
Reasonable pepper, full taste, sweet, some sugar. Vanilla, honey.
    • Finish
      85 85
Still some pepper, sweet, honey and vanilla dominate again. Pretty full and reasonable long.

    Nose:
Immediately after pouring a full roar of sweet flavors: vanilla pudding, puff pastry with frosting, warm apple strudel with vanilla sauce, caramel. Behind the sweetness are some "dirty" scents, tools and a touch of gas station.
Some breathing produces herbal notes and a slightly mineral smell. This impression is reinforced by the addition of a little water, also comes a touch of ink from the background to my nose.

    Mouth:
Here, too, a lot of sweet pastries, especially puff pastry with frosting. Sugar candy, vanilla, again accompanied by herbs, something chalky (The taste has the strongly calcareous water). Again, a touch of gas station, as if you had not washed your hands well after refueling a diesel and then ate a vanilla jelly.

Finish: medium-long, slightly peppery and there is hardly any sweetness left.

A very interesting malt. Since I had neither a Caroni, nor a Glenburgie I can not say where the whisky ends and the influence of the rum begins. The overall composition is definitely delicious and good.
