Color: pale gold, cloudy with water

Tasted against barrel no. 121 2009/2018

Pretty close to my dream of 10yo + -refill-Benromach, the superb 10's minus sherry he does not need to shine too. Yes, the price is ambitious, but OA Single Cask is also worse. Please refill the barrel, leave it alone for 20 years, regardless of the price tag I would forget.
    • Nose
Essentially set and less firstfillig, resinous. Voluminös he does not look straight, but older than 12 years, beautiful resinous, the Benromach mustard note is also there, less ash than in the 2009 Single Cask, then also really mineral, gypsum and beaten flint stones. Oh, there is no trace of alcohol. Smokey with air, more resinous. With water: This whisky is also completely coconut-free, but in front of it is a wall made of polished oak. More soot, and tree sap.
    • Taste
That it is not drinking strength, is noticeable, but 59% I would not have typed. Oily consistency, dusty and dirty old work shed, candle soot rather than smoke, some beeswax; Acacia honey and mustard seeds. Pure drinking. With water: even rounder, older, more dusty oak, more honey, more beeswax, more soot.
    • Finish
Resinous, medium long, not dry, some citrus, peppermint, flint stone.

It's really good. Great bourbon barrel, great distillery, decent barrel strength that can also be enjoyed without water. Just super tasty and honest. Exactly my thing.

Great light / yellow sweet fruits, tangy, fresh citrus notes, frosting. Looks great on the first impression!

Strong caramel, a little honey, lots of sweet grain, extremely floral with sweet and dry vanilla notes. Some hay, heather and delicate pastry notes. With vanilla cream. Pimped with cask strength.

Holy Moly that's great! Falls into my loot scheme. When it comes to citrus, frosting and floral or cereal-like notes, I'm fully involved!

Dry and floral. Again vanilla, again delicate pastry notes, sweet and tangy-fresh citrus fruits. Lots of grain, light wood, quite malty. Maybe a subtle subliminal herb impact.

The smoke is also noticeable here. Lays wonderfully under the present sweet aromas and thus provides the icing on the cake.

Great mouthfeel, presents itself full and voluminous.
Floral, grain, vanilla. With light smoke. Quite a prime example of this flavor structure. Young, intense ex-BC malt. Top!

Wonderful combination of a lot of sweetness and delicately tangy peat smoke. Slightly bitter wood notes and dry herbs are added. Lingers for a long time and is becoming increasingly bitter.

A bit young perhaps, but not immature. A bright lemony malt with a great texture. Not the most complex either, especially considering it is peated. Still a fairly likable malt.
    • Nose
Soft earthy peat, slightly waxy, stone, sugar on lemon, slight pine sap, vanilla
    • Taste
Sharp lemon, butterscotch, thick texture, malty in the background, slight sap, earthy peat, some cacao nibs, peppery
    • Finish
Dry earthy peat, slightly ashy, some chili peppers, mineral, lemon peel, average in length

2021-05-09: Unfortunately, I am not convinced at all. It opens up a lot more with water, but for me it remains more boring than expected.

Vanilla, spice, peach, light orange, more vanilla and fruity with water, caramel
    • Taste

spicy peppery start, on the spicy side, almost alcoholic, slightly vanilla
    • Finish

      bitter chocolate

Pleasantly fresh, lime, vanilla with a little toffee, behind it are a few tropical fruits. A light smoke note is always present. The taste becomes malty, again lime and a little mint. The smoke is much stronger and more dominant in the mouth than in the smell. A pleasant spice from the wood and some ash remain in the mouth. It looks a bit younger than it is, especially in the mouth. I don't think that's bad here, on the contrary. This makes it appear powerful, fresh and intense.
