Young and crisp Islay smoker, does not compromise. The rum barrel is not very intrusive. (Blind tasting) wlk19-09

Clear smoke, goes towards cold ashes, cold campfire. Behind the smoke a slightly sour note, not unpleasant. Green apples, lemon, caramel, honey. Acting fresh and "light" despite the oppressive smoke (meaning: no sherry impregnation). As soon as the nose has become accustomed to the smoke and fades it a little bit, (spicy) notes come with cloves, allspice, nutmeg and pepper.

Strong start with beautiful chocolate and toffee notes. Creamy. Neat spicy with pepper and nutmeg. Distinct smoke, as in the nose. On the tongue, however, less ashy, but rather warm (the campfire is still burning). The fruit notes take a while to work their way through the smoke, the chocolate and the spices. Although initially roasted orange peel shimmered in the beginning, but now it is more towards green apple and citrus juice. Vanilla and honey, fresh bread dough, a little yeast. Marzipan.
    • Finish
      86 86
In the medium-long finish, it gets dry with time, shows notes of fresh wood shavings and still has a damn lot of smoke in tow. The spices are slowing down a bit. No bitterness, but rather fruity-smoky and again chocolate and caramel.

Very fresh and misleading in the nose, as the body proves to be a real peated Kilchoman. The rum cask influence has most effect on the nose, some left in the body but hardly anything left in the finish; peat takes over.

Sweet and peat, sweet smoke, tropical fruits. Vanilla, and lemon detergent, fresh, floral, citrus, 'Dreft'. At a sudden moment it's all freshness and you don't even realize you've got a Kilchoman under your nose.

And then, after all this freshness in the nose, it's hits hard: Lot of pepper, intense, peat, sweet smoke. Some vanilla, but definately not as fresh and light as the nose. Also some wood influence now.
    • Finish
      87 87
A lot of peat and ash now, still pretty intense. Pretty long finish.
