First experience with the distillery, a nice surprise.
    • Nose
      85 85
Sherry and some smoke, the nose is powerful and direct, gives great expectation ....
    • Taste
      84 84
Round and oily, spices are dominant but the smoke is present too... then red fruits, malt and toffee . It is so powerful that seems a 46abv instead of 43.
    • Finish
      83 83
Long and persistent, spices at the beginning and then wood and smoke for long time....

Always been a fan of this distillery and they seem to continue to keep their standards high and prices reasonable. This is why they have the respect of most whisky drinkers.

The first thing that hits you is that great combination of nut, spice and smoke. All on a level playing field. Dig a little deeper and there are raisins, fish bone and creosote. Really nice and you just hope that the taste will follow suit.

And it does. The spice, nut and smoke compliment each other nicely and are in perfect harmony. I also get some spearmint and not much else and there doesn't have to be it is fine the way it is, not overly complex just perfectly balanced with what's in there.
    • Finish
      90 90
The finish is long warm and spicey. Everything that was thrown at your taste buds very slowly fades to a Keyser Soze. Just like that (blow on fingers) it's gone.

    the 10 years of foundation!
    • Nose
spices, light smoke, a little grassy,
      glue, almonds
      malty sweetness
    • Taste
      it's very spicy, quite sweet
it's creamy, a little woody, fine
      sherry as a backdrop!
light fruits (pear, tangerine) a little cooked.
    • Finish
on sweet sherry, the fruits are light, undifferentiated, which would lorgnerait on a good blend with a finish a little more important.
