Andrew's Tasting Note
Nose: oh boy... this is old-school sherried Bowmore; polished Italian leather shoes, dark milk chocolate gummy bears, Mom's Christmas cake, dried medjool dates and musty old sherry; a little maple syrup, slightly floral with peppermint bark, fruity tobacco and creosote soaked ocean piers.
Palate: big, sherried, floral and elegant; the sherry is at once dominant but also restrained; this is sweet sherry, mingling with delicate floral smoke; maple syrup, dark milk chocolate gummy bears and peppermint bark; more Christmas cake, dried medjool dates and building nutty-earthy-spicy tones; late tobacco, polished leather and old engine oil-soaked rags; a touch tarry with creosote-treated oceanside lumber.
Finish: long in length it starts big, sherried and moderately peaty; like the nose and palate the finish is layered, complex and balanced; a touch of late lavender accompanies the syrup, chocolate and clean smoke.
Comment: wow, this came out of nowhere and it is superb; more of a chocolate than fruit driven Bowmore, but there is still that touch of lavender that has become post early 80s' Bowmore's signature; I would like to have seen some tropical furits, but what's here is beautiful; suspect it was a PX Sherry Puncheon.
