Would not I be stuck in Ireland. Reminds me a lot of older unpeated bunnas from the sherry barrel. The nose is a dream, the palate does not quite keep up, but is also very successful. I like the depth and the dark on one side and the freshness and lightness on the other. The 48% Vol. Are really good for the Irish single malt and in my opinion should not be diluted any further. Definitely fun. Could also be one for the summer, although he has neat sherry.

Deep, full sherry aromas pour out of the glass without anything musty. On the contrary, the Irishman is fruity and fresh. There are dried cranberries, raisins, plums, sweet cherries, a hint of pineapple, marzipan, brioche, some cinnamon and allspice. Even chocolate with around 70% cocoa and pipe tobacco are there. After a while, the sherry flavors recede slightly and the malt shows another, rather flowery side. Very elegant and without the slightest false note. I could smell forever.

On the tongue, the malt is not as sweet as the nose would suggest. Again full and with the typical sherry representatives, I find especially tart flavors. Dates, dried figs, raisins, pear peel, oranges, dark chocolate, espresso with a dash of milk, toasted toast, clove, clear wood influence.

Medium length with oak, honey, orange and a bit more dark chocolate.

An exceptional 14 year old single malt that has been matured in the finest Pedro Ximenez and Oloroso Sherry casks, resonant with Autumnal aromas and rich silky sweetness. This whisky marks the first limited edition release from the Lough Gill Distillery, Sligo, West of Ireland and was crafted by Billy Walker, World Distiller of the Year 2015

First impression of the freshly opened bottle:
A very interesting substance, it is tart and sweet at the same time. It starts with honeydew melon, then it becomes woody and continues towards dark chocolate. The sherry barrel doesn't press too hard, but rather sets a good counterpoint to the bitter woodiness.
Let's see how it develops, I'm very excited

Between 2016 and 2017, Lough Gill Distillery, with Billy Walker's help, purchased 500 barrels of matured Irish Single Malts and housed them in the warehouses in Sligo. Useful were not least the old contacts to Cooley.

Great Irishman with nice varied flavors. Dark fruits with bright summer freshness and sweetness. Since probably someone knows what he does. ????

Beautiful sherry with many fruit notes, prunes, raisins, dark ripe cherries. In addition, a light citrus / Lemonnote and a little spice, goes over into a chocolatey marzipan note. Great, varied armons.

Also here full sherry notes present with dark fruits. Oranges and exotic fruits come through. Add some spice and a touch of tart notes like coffee and dark chocolate. Harmonizes wonderfully for me. The 48% do the rest. Very tasty.

Medium long with a honey sweetness over to the chocolate. Something fruity remains. As so often with me, he falls off the back a bit off.

  7. ColdAesthetics scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

Very exciting malt, has beautiful tones and flavor.
    • Nose
Nice, slightly sour, hearty sherry nose, cranberries, wild cherries, ham, liquorice, brioche, herb honey, camphor, nutmeg and cinnamon, allspice and dried plums, red pepper
    • Taste
Not quite the sweetness of the nose, very interesting basic character, reminiscent of a somewhat dry raisin biscuit including the dough, vanilla, marzipan, light honey, plum, red apple, cranberries but again later, a little cherry syrup, then again fresh notes like Lemongrass and ginger juice, nutmeg
    • Finish
Dry, oak emerges, ginger, camphor, nutmeg, licorice, pepper, grapes

  8. Spiritissime scored this whisky 91 points Newbie

Full and rich nose with soft wood combined to dried gruits and spice
Mouth is on full attack mode, lot of spice and overwhelming rich mouthfull. Evolves towards rich wood scent and yet more dried fruit, cocoa, tobaco and honey notes.
    Never ending finish
