A very fruity clean nose with a subtle maritime influence, the smoke influence is just so perceptible and very well interwoven with the rest of the aromas - I had it only in the nose when I had the first sip on the tongue. I especially like the sweetness balance and the fruitiness in the nose - reminds me of very good 89 Bunnas.
    • Nose
      90 90
It starts with fruity fresh lemon, lime juice on brown sugar, lemon dropper, a hint of stone flour, with a slight maritime influence

At first it is rather acidic - but with more time in the glass it is much sweeter and more exotic, reminiscent of ripe mango, slightly buttery papaya, yoghurt with pineapple, yellow kiwi, sweet wheatgrass, hay, fragrant freshly sawn light wood in its own juice , floral notes from tender tannic geranium stems, geranium leaves to sweet lilac and rose petals. Even after 30 minutes in the glass there is still movement in it, the acid is almost completely gone and makes biscuit and cake notes with vanilla place.
The nose does not need water - nothing stands out here.
    • Taste
      89 89
Very juicy light wood, tree sap, grassy oily, astringent but not dry - the tannins are noticeable but never too much, mojito from a glass with sugar crust (fresh mint, lime, brown sugar), peaches, melon, marzipan, powdered sugar, salt, something cold ashes, a hint of liquorice, licorice, cinnamon, without tingling a bit sparkling but not burning,
    • Finish
      88 88
mittelang, a film of spices and a hint of wax is on the tongue along with a pinch of salt, the citrus flavors remain for a while, then give the wort room, neither bitter nor dry - he invites you to another sip.

[February, 2019] Ardmore offers one of the finest peated mainland profiles and usually I like it a lot - so I am very curious about this new release...

...which is a very peaty and flawless Highland dram. A good alternative to the increasingly over-priced Islay whiskies of 20+years, provided the maritime peaty notes are not that essential to you.
    • Nose
      89 89
The colour is pale straw and the nose offers a very peaty highland profile with the typical characteristics of mainland peat that rather smells (and tastes) like a cold bonfire (compared to the more maritime-medicinal island peat). The malt adds fine barley sugars and grassy-floral notes and the wood delicate spices to an overall balanced setting. Later waxes and chalk join in and finally some adorable whiffs of an old byre still in use (in the midst of the Highlands). Let it breathe for at least fifteen minutes to catch this aroma...
    • Taste
      88 88
The taste is a nice combo of mainland peaty and barley sugary flavours that perfect complement each other. After some chewing oily, waxy and resinous flavours appear while the spices come late, as usual. The grassy-autumn floral notes stay there all the time and provide a good backbone to all the other flavours.
    • Finish
      88 88
The dram arrives warming and instantly coating in the mouth with no distracting moments at all. The finish is long and adds more spices and vanilla-toffee notes without bitter-drying moments (except the cold ashes of the bonfire). Water releases more herbal and hessian aromas in the nose and on the palate - I like this dram best somewhat reduced to about 46% abv.

It is really tasty, changes nicely between many flavors. In the mouth, the fruits might have been a bit more dominant for me, but still: a very nice malt, I like it really well. Beautiful balance, complexity, very fine. I like it best with a few drops of water.
    • Nose
      92 92
a lot of nice campfire smoke, lemon, honeydew melon, lychee, fully ripe pear, dog roses, tender lilac, hay, cake dough, butter cookies, light toffee, Toblerone, some licorice, more and more pear, more lilac, peach, some minted mint and nutmeg - oh, very delicious!
    • Taste
      88 88
oily and spicy, with lots of cloves, pepper, lemon, dark caramel and coffee, including some salt, more licorice, a hint of Toblerone, lots of nutmeg, again honeydew melon and pear, but the fruit must fight badly against the dominant spice front
    • Finish
      90 90
long; Strongly spicy with a lot of clove, nutmeg and pepper, including lemon, also tender melon and pear, and the hedge roses flowers, is quickly dry and a bit bitter, but the delicate-sweet notes linger as well - then the camp fire smoke comes forward again, together with rose petals -Black tea

Interesting whisky. Fresh, light-fruited and spicy. On the nose rather sour, on the palate then sweet-fruity and spicy. Nice smoke and pleasant, long finish.

I would never have recognized that as Ardmore.
    • Nose
      89 89
light smoke, sour white fruit, salty, reminiscent of white wine, spicy, ginger, white pepper, nutmeg, malt, hair spray
    • Taste
      88 88
first sweet and spicy, then it gets sour, woody and slightly smoky. Peppery pungency, bright fruits, honeydew melon, ripe pear, green tea
    • Finish
      88 88
long, sour-woody, slightly dry and bitter, pleasant tea notes

An excellent sweet-smoky, fresh fruity malt. Wonderfully balanced, great moon feeling and exciting profile. The finish invites you directly to the next sip. Class UA Malt. PLV still ok.
    • Nose
      89 89
sourish-fruity, increasingly sweet with an exotic note; bright fruits; Lemon; maritime notes; Hay; spicy; nicely integrated smoke note (campfire)
    • Taste
      89 89
mild start; oily mouthfeel; fruity and sweet; again bright fruits (citrus note); with pleasant spicy notes; grassy and flowery; great integrated smoke (fire, ashes)
    • Finish
      90 90
long and slightly dry; sweet and spicy; tingling; some oak; slight pleasant bitterness; nice subtle smoky note (ash); makes you want to more

Somehow no buck on Notes, so just a quick comparison with the Ardmore 1996 20yo (WID: 102030)

The Mancarella is a bit fresher, more sparkling and has less smoke than the original bottling. The OA is a bit calmer, warmer and has more barrel influence.
I like the Mancarella well. However, I like the OA in comparison maybe a little better. Both are delicious malts.
