The bottle is much nicer than the taste

Tasted from a sample, nose is definitely the best part.
    • Nose
      83 83
Some fruitiness which is then overshadowed by dark chocolate and some herbs.
    • Taste
      80 80
      Sweet, fruity, spicy, quite boring.

Lacks that punch, quite watery on the palate but smooth.
    • Finish
      79 79
Drying, spicy, with a bit of lingering sweetness.

Still surprisingly ‘fine’ since I first enjoyed a dram on a double-decker bus in Edinburgh 2019.

The The Sexton Irish Single Malt comes from Ireland and belongs to the Bushmills group. The Sexton Single Malt is also distilled there. Of course, the Old Bushmills Distillery copper stills are used for the triple distillation. Medium toasted Oloroso sherry casks are used for the 4-year storage. The The Sexton Irish Single Malt is made with 40.0% vol. bottled.
    • Nose
Malty sweet with notes of dark chocolate, nuts and marzipan and an impression of allspice.
    • Taste
Starts sweet with notes of honey and vanilla, dried fruits and delicate oak.
    • Finish
Medium length with fruit and spicy sweet oak.

Great entry-level whiskey. Comes with a nice but monotonous fruit aroma but then becomes very unspectacular towards the end. Mild and without rough edges. A bit boring but easy to drink.
    • Nose
      80 80
intense pear, fruity, honey, light vanilla, herbal aromas, sweet, deodorant spray, with a deeper nose a bit earthy, slightly malty, a little hay
    • Taste
      77 77
spicy start, then becomes mild relatively quickly, again strong fruit notes (intense pear), wood glue, oily, nutty, some vanilla and honey, some herbs
    • Finish
      72 72
short, woody, malty, sweet, some herbs, slight heat

  12. VanOpek scored this whisky 74 points Expert Senior

Nice nose, not bad at all
    • Nose
      77 77
subtile sherry note, dried fruit, medium sweet, after a while fresh fruits, caramel, vanilla, nut hints in the background
    • Taste
      73 73
a lot of oak, bitterness, very young, creamy caramel, pepper, a little bit empty
    • Finish
      72 72
oak, bitter herbs, young and simple, warm, medium-long

Thin on the palate, not many aroma components. Lacks complexity...

    • Nose
      81 81
Sherry Oloroso. Yeast, hides and dried fruit. There is a little bit of alcohol. Later, fresher red fruit appeared in the background. Then a trace of candied fruit and caramel.
    • Taste
      83 83
Clear influence of sherry casks. Lots of dried and red fruits. Lots of spices, a little spice, but in a pretty nice way. Fruit again, a little fresher now. It's getting pretty sweet. Then a bit of oak bitterness. Maybe a walnut.
    • Finish
      83 83
Aromas of red, fortified wine. Sherry. Red fruit. Sweet, slightly spicy spices. Enjoyable. Hidden alcohol. The aftertaste remains sweet and tannin. Traces of a walnut.

Quite flat taste, nothing special except for the bottle itself

  17. MonkeChef scored this whisky 71 points Expert Junior

Young and spicy, with a strong sense of Oloroso sherry.
    • Nose
Sweetish, spicy, cranberry, nutmeg, overripe strawberry, apricot, nuts, a light hint of citrus, raspberry, curry.
    • Taste
Sweet, spicy, dried fruit, strawberry, cinnamon, nutmeg, orange peel, walnuts, peach.
    • Finish
Medium length, sweet, spicy, strawberry, cranberry and raspberry muesli, cinnamon, ginger, dried plum, and chocolate.

n: dark & heavy notes, sherry, oak, warm, cinnamon, apples, oily, vanilla, cereal, dried fruit, herbal, hint of honey and ginger, kind of komplex
t: sherry, dry, full, honey, smooth
a: wood, spicy, sherry, sharpness of young whiskey

  19. MaroFF scored this whisky 85 points Expert Senior

This is one of my approach to this whiskey and it was different each time. It is not some complex drink, but a more simple floral-fruity pleasure. Overall, it is a delicate and quite sweet whiskey, a typical dessert whiskey, which will probably be good for beginners who are just starting their adventure with this noble drink.
It will definitely be good as a whiskey at the end of the day
    • Nose
      85 85
delicate, fruity, apples, nuts, vanilla, a handful of dried herbs, rum?
    • Taste
      85 85
sweet, oily, peach, milk chocolate, walnuts, young oak
    • Finish
      84 84
medium-long, pleasant, sweet, sugar syrup, slightly spicy tip, pinching the tongue

  21. marmeladow scored this whisky 81 points Expert Senior

palatable, uncomplicated Irish single malt, a few drops of water take away some of its youthful, metallic bitterness.
Its price is certainly okay, but it is also not worth more than around € 27-28. Remains a little less meaningful
    • Nose
      83 83
Nice, varied nose with a fruit salad made from ripe fruits, especially pear. Sweetness, vanilla, some marzipan and nuts. The nosing remains the most interesting part of this whisky
    • Taste
      81 81
creamy, oily and soft mouthfeel. Fruit compote, hints of sherry, a touch of dark chocolate, vanilla, malty sweetness.
    • Finish
      79 79
Rather short, some cinnamon spice next to the sweetness with malt and vanilla. A bit bitter even with water.

Nose - Almond, oak, banana, shortcrust pastry

Palate - hint of cinnamon, stronger oak note, black cherry and vanilla

Finish - Medium. Very pleasant with a certain pastry aftertaste

Undisclosed Bushmills whisky said to be aged for 4 years old in any number of 1st to 3rd-fill oloroso sherry casks.

N: I don’t hold out much hope but there is some interest. Shades of Famous Grouse [WLP], yet far warmer and with firm notes of toasted bananas, some stewed dried fruits and a few spices.
T: Comes with a highly tempered youthful edginess. Frustratingly but not unsurprisingly, it soon turns into grain-y malaise.
F: Little oloroso cask calibre to speak of yet we’ve plenty more soft-spicy candied bananas to finish.
C: With a softly softly approach for the market for which it’s intended, it’s just fine.

  26. wisekyofcourse scored this whisky 81 points Connoisseur

roundness in the mouth, sweetness of malt, a little vanilla, a little caramel, slightly cooked fruits, sweet spices, a good dram for qq who wants to taste Irish or just for a starter!
a bit of everything, but little particularity actually.
