Pencil shavings, banana, hay, cereals, apple, pear, cinammon, chocolate, orange, not bad but one of those sherried BN where the distillery character is hidden by the sherry

A ripe apple topped with a strong vanilla sauce and old wood. Over time in the glass, the apple turns into a beautiful ripe peach, overall it becomes earthier, leathery and dusty. Forest floor, wax polish and old books. With water, the fruit, pale grapes and pears become waxy in the mouth, especially creamy vanilla and apples in the mouth. Dusty old books and becoming leatherier over time. In the finish again vanilla cream with ripe apple, followed by clear oak. Very nice whisky!

very beautiful and interesting paints especially in the nose. Very complex and tasty. I like the flavor profile very much. Very well balanced
    • Nose
In the very first moment I had nutmeg, then there are soft nutty notes, some chocolate, orange peel, slightly malty in the background and a kind of menthol note hovers over everything all the time, occasionally sherry aromas which become more intense over time and which appear briefly Menthol notes take a back seat
    • Taste
nice sherry start, a bit sweet, then nice orange notes paired with dried fruits with the orange dominating. Later it appears a bit salty and bitter but not unpleasant. Some spicy oak comes through
    • Finish
Nice aromatic finish, lots of fruit, a bit sweet and also a bit bitter and slightly sour. Nice mouthfeel, the oak is also clearly present here.

A quite rough and powerful Nevis. Harmonious, round and with a fresh nose. I like it very much.
A little water is still good for him, it becomes a little more balanced and the transitions between nose, palate and finish are softer and more flowing.
    • Nose
      90 90
Light, fine sweet with a little peppermint, it looks fresh, with a few fruits like apples, oranges, citrus, pears. Some grain and malt, hints of cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg, nice combination of spices that goes well with the different fruits. Somehow something nutty comes through with vanilla. Great thing
    • Taste
      90 90
Slightly bitter, a little minerally in the beginning, looks rather creamy despite the high alcohol content, although there are also a lot of peppery-spicy notes. In addition, the fruity notes of the nose repeat themselves nicely, everything harmoniously with each other, some chocolate with the spices are in the background. Here, too, it looks rather fresh.
    • Finish
      89 89
Medium-long finish, dry on the finish of leather and tobacco. Chocolate, more oak spice and the slightly minty note show up again and form the conclusion.

I like the nose. In the mouth, however, the young-looking citrus fruits bother me a little. Otherwise actually good.
Overall not bad. Somehow I expected more from him.
    • Nose
Tart forest honey and a bit of forest soil. A couple of floral hints. Nougat. Nuts. Ringlets glazed in butter. Maybe some pineapple too. Orange oil. A little white pepper. In addition, certain umami notes and herbs / spices.
    • Taste
The honey again. Tart apricot jam. Salted caramel. Rotten wood. Meat that has been marinated in herbs. Lemongrass. Additionally citrus fruits, which do not look quite as elegant. More reminiscent of citrus notes from younger malts.
    • Finish
The citrus fruits are fading. Pomegranate. Wood wort. A mixture of fresh tree sap and musty wood.

    Color: Old Gold

Comment: Neither the most complex nor the most expressive Ben Nevis bottling, but the balance between barrel and distillate he meets and it is also tasty. 90 points
    • Nose
More sherry, darker, furniture polish, including Ben Nevis pineapple and herbs. The alcohol is not completely covered, but less racy in the nose. With water: No more alcohol, but he does not swim too much. Nasser Tang, modern wood.
    • Taste
Acts a bit thin without water. Otherwise copy and paste from the nose. Water: A little may. The perfect blend of sherry, old-style wax and Ben Nevis. Less pineapple, a little mustard, especially a lot of musty-rotting undergrowth. Later including marijuana. Beeswax candles and rape honey, a little mango. Some salt and tang.
    • Finish
Long, slightly spicy, including sherry. Jup.

    Tasted in the evening.

A surprising nose: floral, lime confit ... confusing, I am a little lost.
In the mouth, grapefruit, very spicy. Herbal liqueur. Very nice explosiveness.
    Beautiful length. Ultra sparkling.

I never knew how to identify the distillery blind.

Very balanced, but on the spicy side, despite 55.5% you do not feel the alcohol, blindly I would have typed at most to 48%. Could sniff at the eternal, unfortunately, the rest of my opinion can not quite keep up, because I miss a fruity counterpart to the bitter herbal note.
    • Nose
      91 91
A fine sweet (hard to describe, very noticeable but not pointed sweet like honey rather grape), some menthol, light herbs, bright fruits (apple).
    • Taste
      86 86
Herbal tea, slightly bitter, mineral, dark chocolate.
    • Finish
      87 87
The herbal taste dominates with oak.

A good balance is this BN! The sherry is very harmoniously integrated, does not stand out - but is always noticeable. Warm apple pie with honey, cinnamon and almond slices, chocolate caramel and butter vanilla, candied fruit, melted butter and some freshly peeled walnut skin. Soft leather and very subtle peat. The taste is initially dry after earthy forest soil, precious woods and foliage, then sweet with mirabelle jam, orange zest, shortbread, toffee and glucose. Later he brings out his resinous and slightly bitter note. Strong black East Frisian tea with candy and cream. Everything was very coherent and very closely interwoven. With tobacco notes, roasted nuts, cocoa chips and licorice root it sounds slowly, very slowly.

A tannic and quite austere Ben Nevis at first. Second pass is stronger and better. It's a bit rough and unbalanced for me though.
    • Nose
Strong citrusy acidity at first and for a few minutes. Then it turns mineral (stones, graphite), mentholated, nutty, honeyed and spicy. Whiffs of grapes and plums. Tannins.
    • Taste
Tannic! A pinch of salt, pepper, mint, bitter oranges, plums, dark chocolate, coffee.
    • Finish
      Long, oaky, peppery and minty

    • Nose

A bastion of sherry, mineral rock / lime, red grape marc, nutty, sweet and sour, initially difficult to penetrate, with time and air, the aromas are clear.
    • Taste
      90 90
warm, oily, sweet, powerful, dried fruits with nuts, cinnamon, marzipan, grape nut chocolate, peppermint, orange peel.
    • Finish
      92 92
dried bright fruits, strong milk coffee, wet autumn leaves, first sweet then feinherb expectant - very present and very long.

  44. DerDennis! scored this whisky 90 points Specialist

Strong sherry with decent spiciness and pleasant tannins. Requires some water in my view, then it becomes a clear Ben Nevis
    • Nose
      92 92
Nutty, spicy, lots of chocolate and cinnamon, menthol, dark dried fruits, nutmeg, pepper, sweet honey, malt, oranges, the typical Ben Nevis notes flash over again, sherry
    • Taste
      90 90
sweet, salty, sherry, nutmeg, pepper, oily, malt and tannins, spicy, prunes, strong mint, dark chocolate with orange
    • Finish
      89 89
long, light fruit sweetness, woody, unsweetened peppermint tea
