Whisky Reviews for Bruichladdich 2008 TFR

5 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 86.88 points

Bruichladdich's Port Charlotte just is so insanely reliable, it's almost as if they took a page out of the Caol Ila book.
    • Nose
Smoky and savoury in the best possible way. Hints of campfire, embers and dried meat and cured ham, but also vanilla and fresh and fruity notes of pineapple and sultanas.
    • Taste
Full on peat, slightly medicinal even, with hints of seaweed and a decent pinch of salt, but also sweet oranges and pineapple. Then there's damp oak, burlap and a touch of cardboard, as well as wood smoke.
    • Finish
      Lingering peat smoke. Long.

did a comparison between editions no 5 and 6. 6 is the more
lively and fruity, while the 5 is heavier and dirtier. you may say
that the 6 is the yang, while the 5 is the dark, feminine yin.
overall, 6 is more consistant and better balanced, but i prefer 5
for the rawness of its malt. i guess i choose the dark side, then.
    • Nose

much smoke straight up.. dunnage and wet wood a la Ledaig at its most dirtiest.. roasted hazelnuts.. smoked meats.. aromatic herbs filtered through heavy velvet curtains of sherry.. seeetness and fruits emerge shyly in the end
    • Taste
      89 89
difficult to put into words.. it hits with the power of a deep bass note coming from a powerful speaker system.. herbal-driven, a pinch of licorice, but not a little lavender and oregano.. it may go into strong oak and bitter territory
    • Finish
      87 87
echoes of oak and some aspirin

  3. Dominic did not rate this whisky Expert Senior

    • Nose
Gorgonzola, lavender, chives, overripe figs, banana.
    • Taste
Dates, slightly bitter, crème brulée and pana cotta.
    • Finish
      Long finish.

Described on TFR's website as a Port Charlotte - http://www.fishermansretreat.com/product/fishermans-retreat-edition-no-5-port-charlotte-haut-brion-cask/

I tried a glass with my meal and liked it so much I purchased the bottle. The fifth barrel they have done - all worth a try.
    • Nose
      85 85
Mince pies, plump sultanas, some spice - enticing.
    • Taste
      88 88
Red fruits, more spice, but remarkably gentle - leaves you wanting more.
    • Finish
      88 88
      Lingers pleasantly - very nice.
