Whisky Reviews for Deanston 15-year-old WoW

2 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 86.30 points

  1. alectron scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

    • Nose
first sniff: port & puke... Not too obtrusive, but slightly weird & yuck (73).

A bit later: much better & as expected from a finished whisky. Malt with a touch of gunsmoke, slightly rotten wood & apples (applebox), plus the fruity wine sweetness from the port. (87)
    • Taste
very deep, warm & fruity, quite a bit of wood, somewhat un-whisky-y as the port/wine influence is very present. (89)
    • Finish
more malt & wood +, tobacco, an old book & it's pages (a tad cardboard-y), marshmallows, a small hint of smoke, at the end the alcohol occasionally shines though which up to now didn;t feel like over 60%. (86)

Not very different, but still remarkable malt not found often.
    • Nose
Very nice and pleasant light to medium sweetness (berries, pomegranate, pear) combines with a very subtle malty and not unpleasant wood flavors. After a while, the deanston strikes me as a medium-sized rum pot, into which a few fragrant flowers have fallen.
    • Taste
So restrained that a good 60% were still in the nose, so clearly noticeable they are now. Still, I would not necessarily go for so many turns, especially as the Deanston nestles quite smoothly on the palate, making it almost creamy. Very strong memories of a full-bodied red wine, this time less sweet than in the nose.
    • Finish
Medium long and quite pleasantly warming ... after a while the impression of having enjoyed a nice red wine remains again.
