Whisky Reviews for Port Ellen 1982 MM

  1. wisekycourse scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

A pleasant nose salty, iodized, peaty but fine with fruit stewed and sweet!
In the mouth, the peat is sweet, delicate, mingling well with the sweet side of the fruits (cooked pears and lemon with its zest), there is still this salty side and a little grassy (greasy wet herbs), fine spices arrive finally to amplify the softness felt in the mouth.
peaty finish, fruity, fine, but rather long.

    a good homemade blend in itself !!!! *** (W2019)

  2. ColdAesthetics scored this whisky 92 points Connoisseur

Very elegant and ingeniously balanced PE, the barrel was used perfectly to round off, but not to whitewash a bit, blindly you would not have got 90% of the barrel finish. From nose to finish consistently upper class and a suitable, perfectly drinkable drinking strength of just over 48%.
    • Nose
Interesting, iodine, very crystalline, concentrated, salt crystals but also granulated sugar behind it, nice, dry pear, some white grapefruit, freshly squeezed ginger juice, subtle, dry chunks of charcoal in the background only as a smoky note, long gone, cardamom, subtle lime and lemon peel . After the first sip, the dry peat notes spread more.
    • Taste
White grapefruit in the beginning, peel and meat, then very dry, autumnal peat, we slightly sizzling leaves, becomes more intense, but never too crass, then candied citrus peel comes everywhere, lime, lemon (different types) with rock sugar, like handmade citrus sweets from Italy, cardamom, cumin, fennel tea, always with the beautiful, dry, earthy smoke, ginger, lemongrass, some resin
    • Finish
Very balanced, mostly the same notes, dry citrus peel, tick dessert wine, maybe. Now add a little more herbal tea, chamomile, fennel, verbena, medium to long

  3. Jack Marinello scored this whisky 92 points Expert Senior

    • Nose
Mineral, iodized, syrupy. Small peat, yellow fruits.
    • Taste
Same Nose, Round, sweet enough. Peat. Fruits (yellow plums), lemon.
    • Finish
The final is very, very long! A beautiful wedding that this PE and this finish!

A small centiliter, the 17th and last of the evening, it's a little hard hard! (But it was very good!)
    Enthusiasm 4/5 Whisky n ° 1697
    • Nose
      Fresh fruits, apple ...
    • Taste
Ultra-melted, suave, peat hyper well integrated.
    • Finish
      Very balanced

The Yquem casks gave this one a nice fruitiness and sweetness. A gentle Port Ellen with a refined peat. Excellent.

    Old tasting note.
    • Nose
Gentle peat, lemon, slightly sweet, candied yellow fruits, seabreeze.
    • Taste
Peat, slightly tarry, sweet notes again, lemon, pepper.
    • Finish
      Medium, peat, salt.

Serge gave this 91 points over at Whisky Fun. He concludes his review with the following: its quite interesting how the Sauternes influence never stopped fading
away, making all this quite breathtaking. One that works!
