Cold ashes, pithy peat flavors with a salty-spicy background. Slightly metallic and very straightforward. Vanilla, cereals, lime, honey and dusty soil (farmy earthy). Not the creamiest nose, but really well built!
Now, however, fat, spicy and nicely spicy. Sweet fresh fruit and mint paired with peaty broth, coal and a lot of minerality. Always sweeter and fruity. The lime is in charge and characterizes this great taste!
Long - peaty, fresh and persistently fruity. The emerging vanilla note not only fits in here, but also complements the finish perfectly - nothing works here against each other!

  5. Archer scored this whisky 89 points Connoisseur

He barely manages the 12 years and is thus in a list of very good, mature single malts from Kilchoman. These around the 12 year old 2019 single casks, anything but despicable.
    • Nose
      90 90
Pleasant notes of vanilla with a delicate smoky note. The peat smoke can be seen on the first smell, but it does not impose itself, fits well into the overall picture. Pepper, nutmeg, allspice. Kelp and a salty breeze from the sea. Warm tar cardboard.
    • Taste
      89 89
On the tongue with a strong, yet surprisingly soft and velvety touch. Creamy and oily, only slightly dry. Clear smoke, dry wood, leather. Dryness increases rapidly, seasoning, lemon, orange. With yeast dough and a grain note. Kelp, Wadden Sea at low tide, machine oil.
    • Finish
      89 89
Medium to long, intense (cold) smoke, herbs and spices (pepper, nutmeg), toffee, caramel.

While many Kilchomans smell the same and, as the intense smoke covers everything, here the keg has done a great job. A beautiful influence of the Bourbon barrel offers in the nose desire for more. The taste is then again a classic Kilchoman and it comes to the desire for 2-3 years more maturation.
But shows that you can look forward to older Kilchomans quite.

Very sweet, ashen cold smoke in the entrance. Behind it vanilla, honey, some refreshment sticks. Alcohol peppery present, but also gives strength. Over time, it releases and releases the sweetness. Some salt caramel, salted butter, shortbread. Great nose.
    • Taste
      85 85
Classic Kilchoman smoke, some grapefruit, lemon, then very subtle honey. Tingling mouthfeel, while bitter-sweet. After the great nose almost a little disappointing.
    • Finish
      85 85
Comparatively short. Pleasant, light mouthfeel. Sweet again with pleasant smoke in the finish. Great finish, but unfortunately too short and a tick to "watery".

  7. fritzbrause scored this whisky 86 points Expert Senior

Wonderful balanced nose with loads of peatsmoke, salt, citrus and a slight vanilla note. The palate is rather sharp at the start and opens a room of typical and intense Islay peat smoke aromas. The finish is very dry and long. Water opens some more facettes in the nose and some nutty aromas appear. The palates become a bit more complex. From my opinion a nice and straightforward peated Islay malt without too many surprises.
