Billy walker really made a name of Benriach and Glendronach before selling them off and purchasing Glenallachie. By the way Glenallachie has nearly the same output as Benriach and Glendronach combined. Certainly a distillery to pay attention to with a proven ownership group that understands what the consumer wants.

A drinker, not a thinker. It’s a very easy malt that tastes genuine, not like Dalmore 12 for example. I don’t think anyone would have a hard time drinking this. Something I would be happy to pour for my father in law, that doesn’t want any “extreme” profile. Very pleasant and better than I expected.

Fresh cut oak, straw, milk chocolate. Strawberry and orange. Not overly expressive, but no flaws either.
    • Taste
      85 85
Milk chocolate and cognac, soft red fruits, creamy, absent of bitterness or spice. Very easy.
    • Finish
      84 84
Creamy, milk chocolate, orange chocolate, slightly drying. Very nice.

Looks very out of round, the different oak barrel types do not harmonize with each other. Way too much virgin oak. Glenallachie can do that better.
    • Nose
      80 80
Sweetness with raisins, a lot of toasted oak with a honey film, vanilla and banana, rather delicate and reserved, warm bread and coarse marzipan, caramel with a little marble cake, fruity hints: green grapes, golden delicious, unripe plums, orange, nectarine, removes cinnamon and ginger
    • Taste
      78 78
Sweetness with grassy-malty influences, bittersweet spicy oak and lots of Virgin Oak, some clove and ginger, cinnamon, bread spices, honey, the sherry adds plums and a bit of chocolate bitterness, vanilla and banana, a hint of thyme, apple
    • Finish
      73 73
strong fresh oak, somewhat cold ash, slightly sulphurous, rather dry, cinnamon and vanilla, again a thin layer of chocolate bitterness, a hint of orange and apple fruit, short and grassy, fading ginger, oak and malt at the end

Tasting of a total of 3 miniatures with clear differences. You might think that different barrel maturations in the samples. Needs a lot of air in the Glencairn glass and can take a few drops of water.
Then tasty, tasty, not very complex Speysider.
Fresh, fruity and exhilarating lightness. Sherry notes in the background, on the other hand acidity and lime reminiscent of light white wine along with tropical fruits and sweetness.
    • Nose
      84 84
Honey, sweet toffee and old sherry (raisins). Aroma gains depth when diluted and loses the somewhat unpleasant alcohol notes at first.
    • Taste
      85 85
Powerful, the 46% can be felt well. Variety of flavors with sweetness, dried fruit and also rather dry sherry, alongside honey, citrus fruit and some banana.
    • Finish
      82 82
slight sharpness with spicy notes and alcohol, medium length, not very impressive

So far the first Glenallachia that doesn't suit my taste. The alcohol is not well integrated, does not taste mature and is a bit spritish. The first sample which I will not drink completely.

Since you have set on the wood rail. The trick also worked on the nose. But at the back he is too modern and not set enough. Too little body, but the PLV is ok. Because the age is praiseworthy.

Bright freshly cut wood with vanilla notes and a little honey on the banana. Standard and short explained, but very appealing. Great nose. Respect.
    • Taste
      83 83
A little bit of everything but nothing enough! Sherry? Quite successful on the palate just too flat expanded. What he has is a dense network of malt and spice. The palate does not hold what the nose has promised.
    • Finish
      81 81
Medium to rather short. It remains fruity and spicy but somehow minerally simple. Too bad he did not last. Unfortunately, do not convince me. Modern standard. PLV good.

Reminds me of slightly burned steak (meat). The aftertaste is better than the initial taste. Would have been better at a higher alcohol percentage.
