Red wine ripples are not for everyone, the flavors can quickly overload the whisky or tip it into the cheesy-sweet Strawberry World wonderland. Fortunately, this does not happen here, this old Glen Garioch retains its oily-spicy character, which is complemented by the influences of the well-chosen Lagrange barrels very nicely. The initial strawberry aromas gave a foreboding, but what followed was pure enjoyment.
    • Nose
Then an old battered pot with spicy, thickened sweet and mostly red berry fruits smells and bubbles over a fire, already lightly set and caramelized. Sweet ripe strawberries, pickled cherries and redcurrants with a fine-sour acidity. Add a decent pinch of cloves and cinnamon sticks. Elder blossoms and fresh light grape must provide a neat fruity sweetness. The French oak barrels give a lot of woody-tart aromas, which integrate nicely into the complex overall picture. This fine conglomeration of sweet fruits and the warm spicy woody aromas is so irresistible that I can hardly take my nose off the glass.
    • Taste
An almost exuberant warming sweetness flatters the taste buds immediately. The fruits are no longer so finely sorted, it is more a spicy compote, but extremely intense. First and foremost the beautiful ripe strawberries and Amarena cherries, freshly baked salted caramel with a crust of slightly burnt sugar, ripe peaches and ripe raspberries. Even more than in the nose, the oak barrels come to their right here. With beautiful tart espresso notes and dark cocoa powder, they bring a pleasant and slightly astringent dryness, but nothing superimposed, but pleasantly expanded the flavor.
    • Finish
The finish is rather medium and dominated by the barrels of French oak. Tannin rich, slightly dry, to the red sweet and sour fruit of the berries, in the final conclusion then still warming spices such as cloves and cinnamon sticks combined with a malty sweetness.

    I love that whisky.
It is wonderfully balanced, highly complex and brings great wine aromas with it.
    An experience for me.

The technical data are very similar to the Bowmore from Amazon. A direct comparison would be interesting here.

A powerful, intensive whisky - the wine barrel maturation is not to everyone's taste - it is sophisticated but also very good!

Not a successful wine finish in my opinion...
    • Nose
Strawberry, very woody, herb medicinal, or just nail polish? Metallic, very meaty.
    • Taste
Woody, but watery and light, awful, some cheapest cognac you find in a small shop, then thick wood, chocolates and new oak.
    • Finish
      Long, winey.
