    Smell: Herbaceous basic note, differentiated, fine spicy wood, vanilla, red berries, strawberry ice cream, according to grain, biscuit, raspberries

    Flavor: medium Body, fine spicy oak, well-integrated alcohol, dark chocolate, leather, long finish

    Colour: copper with a reddish core, narrow water edge, clear

    Conclusion: finally a red wine aging that doesn't end in the usual one-dimensional red berry fruit cocktail - at the same time finely balanced, complex and lasting...

    Notes from a blind tasting.

    Very nice and intense, I really like it. In the nose it is still tart and dry, but I find it more diverse in the mouth.

    I have to admit that I did not recognize the wine barrel aging when I tasted it blindly, and I guessed it was an Oloroso aging.

      Nose: A big, fat sherry nose. First association: Glendronach.
      Let's let the dram air out for a while. These are more the bitter sherry aromas: herbs with thyme, strong oak spice, tobacco leaves, plus dusty old leather, very well integrated alcohol. On the fruity side, there is not so much, it goes in the direction of dried fruits (plums, raisins) and fermented fruit.
    • Taste
      89 89
      The malt immediately lays heavily on the tongue, now the fruity notes are also there in connection with sweetness (rock sugar). In addition, everything that was already hinted at in the nose: some herbs, tobacco, leather sofa, cocoa.
    • Finish
      88 88
      Nice long. Dark chocolate, espresso, in connection with tingling oak spice, slight bitterness on the palate, and again and again sweet ingredients in the cheek pouches.

  8. Issie did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

    • Nose
      Grasses, fresh wood, earth, herbs, some mint, dark dried fruits, nuts, blackberries, wild berry jam, chocolate, cinnamon, raspberries, caramel
    • Taste
      Blackberries, nuts, dark dried fruits, red currants, wood, then sugared berries, berry fruit gums, a little pepper on the back

  9. ffmdino did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

    it is challenging and complex
    I like the nose but it's not for everyone
    the finish is so so-so
    the palate with the red fruits / berries and the dark chocolate fits
    I liked it very much
    • Nose
      starts with what I call a typical wine muff (but doesn't bother me here), dark notes, musty, red apple, very spicy, light paper, slightly a chemical note, vanilla comes late
    • Taste
      oily, full and strong on the palate
      dark caramel, dark chocolate ~ 75%, cardboard, again the wine muff, slightly red fruits (cherry, strawberry)
    • Finish
      medium long
      slightly oak, red wine, tart, spicy, slightly chemical like plastic

    with water: does not need it, the alcohol is very well integrated. With the water there are some oranges and lime flavors

    Conclusion: I often have problems with red wine ripening, but this one is really delicious, especially without adding water, it also has a lot of strength and power. Especially the extremely dense nose with the caramel note, the red berries and the mix of spices totally flash me
    • Nose
      90 90
      Some red berry fruits: red currants, strawberries, blueberries, red grapes, deep caramel sweetness, plus great spice / herbal notes with thyme, rosemary, cinnamon and cloves, overall very deep, dense, complex and harmonious, only the finish is a little less
    • Taste
      89 89
      here the red berries are more hidden and subtle, plus great spicy oak notes and again strong caramel notes, which are also joined by chocolate
    • Finish
      87 87
      not quite as intense, medium length, red berries, spiciness without bitterness

    Smell: fruit, blackberries, bubble gum. components are dry
    Taste: spicy the first time. Unfortunately, it is too dry for me. Better after adding water. Dry falls, cherries appear. It gets sweeter. Of course, there are elements of wine in the background. Medium strong aroma.
    Rating: 87 | 100. A fairly long finish with a dry and wine taste.

    The technical data are very similar to the Bowmore from Amazon. A direct comparison would be interesting here.

    A powerful, intensive whisky - the wine barrel maturation is not to everyone's taste - it is sophisticated but also very good!
    [Color] copper;
    • Nose
      sweet, very fruity (berries, grapes), spices, oak;
    • Taste
      intense, sweet, vinous, strawberries, cherries, spices (pepper), oily, tart, coffee, dark chocolate, full flavor, European oak, multi-layered;
    • Finish
      medium-long finish, sweet and sour, vinous; aftertaste sweet, dry oak;

    Not a successful wine finish in my opinion...
    • Nose
      Strawberry, very woody, herb medicinal, or just nail polish? Metallic, very meaty.
    • Taste
      Woody, but watery and light, awful, some cheapest cognac you find in a small shop, then thick wood, chocolates and new oak.
    • Finish
      Long, winey.

  24. Dramned! scored this whisky 88 points Expert Senior

    Red wine ripples are not for everyone, the flavors can quickly overload the whisky or tip it into the cheesy-sweet Strawberry World wonderland. Fortunately, this does not happen here, this old Glen Garioch retains its oily-spicy character, which is complemented by the influences of the well-chosen Lagrange barrels very nicely. The initial strawberry aromas gave a foreboding, but what followed was pure enjoyment.
    • Nose
      Then an old battered pot with spicy, thickened sweet and mostly red berry fruits smells and bubbles over a fire, already lightly set and caramelized. Sweet ripe strawberries, pickled cherries and redcurrants with a fine-sour acidity. Add a decent pinch of cloves and cinnamon sticks. Elder blossoms and fresh light grape must provide a neat fruity sweetness. The French oak barrels give a lot of woody-tart aromas, which integrate nicely into the complex overall picture. This fine conglomeration of sweet fruits and the warm spicy woody aromas is so irresistible that I can hardly take my nose off the glass.
    • Taste
      An almost exuberant warming sweetness flatters the taste buds immediately. The fruits are no longer so finely sorted, it is more a spicy compote, but extremely intense. First and foremost the beautiful ripe strawberries and Amarena cherries, freshly baked salted caramel with a crust of slightly burnt sugar, ripe peaches and ripe raspberries. Even more than in the nose, the oak barrels come to their right here. With beautiful tart espresso notes and dark cocoa powder, they bring a pleasant and slightly astringent dryness, but nothing superimposed, but pleasantly expanded the flavor.
    • Finish
      The finish is rather medium and dominated by the barrels of French oak. Tannin rich, slightly dry, to the red sweet and sour fruit of the berries, in the final conclusion then still warming spices such as cloves and cinnamon sticks combined with a malty sweetness.
