[April, 2020] I rated the 2006 and 2008 release of the 25-years old Talisker 90 points and the 2014 and 2015 release 88 points each. So it seems as if the quality of these standard bottlings detoriates a little over time so the question is: Does this trend continue for this 2018 bottling...

...and it does not, hooray! Both nose and taste are pretty fine and on eye-level with the 2006 resp. 2008 release, just the finish is a little weakish compared to them. This is a delicious and flawless profile which is very quaffable, I like it!
    • Nose
      90 90
The colour is jonquiripe corn and the nose offers delicate and quite impressive Talisker profile which I really like. The peaty aromas are a little stronger than usual and they are in a fine balance with the honey-fruity notes. Again I miss a little the maritime side, obviously most of the casks matured on the mainland - which prevents this nose from surpassing the 90-points barrier. But it is certainly better than the 2014 and 2015 release (as far as I remember). By the way, I use a big spheric blender's glass for nosing (only). After a longer breathing some delicate OBFs (aceton) develop that I really enjoy in this mix
    • Taste
      90 90
The taste is nicely layered again with more peaty flavours than previous releases which is very tasty. After some chewing all the other flavours dare to show up too and they do it one after the other like in a parade. Beside the fruits and honeys there are delicious molten barley sugars on the sweet side and fine leafy-herbal-spicy impressions on the bitter side. No flaw or imbalance, this dram is very quaffable.
    • Finish
      88 88
The initial mouthfeel is warming but provides a minor coating effect only, unfortunately. No distracting bitter or astringent moments (like so many younger Talisker show these days). The finish is of medium length and finally there are some minor maritime notes of salt and seaweed, hooray! Nonetheless, the mouthfeel and finish is the weakest part of this dram but it is not bad att all - just average only. Water is not needed as it just flattens the dram.

I approach every 25 year old whisky with a certain awe of age. As in life, the impetuous, immature youth develops into a character that has matured through experience. Let's see what this has matured to with the Talisker 25.
    • Nose
      95 95
Fruity aromas from citrus to dark fruits like raisins and dried plums. When you inhale quickly, you get something metallic like aluminum shavings.
Tender tarry smoke with maritime, herbal notes. Another time smoldering candle wick.
Tobacco box and floor wax come to mind. With water I smelled of earthy, damp potatoes. You can enjoy it for minutes. What unbelievable stories the nose tells that can be patiently listened to.
I'm now the fourth time to refill. An intense cloud of toffee and caramel wafts towards me, which makes me wonder why I haven't noticed that before. Just awesome.

Pleasantly soft and mild with a slight sweetness on the tip of the tongue. Dark chocolate followed by a peppery spiciness. Overall, the alcohol is well integrated and never comes to the fore.

    • Finish
      89 89
For me, the finish is not the strength of this Talisker's. With a memory of black tea, it comes across as a bit too dry and bitter with a few herbal and wood aromas and cannot come up with any additional finesse.

Conclusion: A worthy representative, with the freestyle in the nose and the compulsory part in the finish.

    InterWhisky-Frankfurt.
Amazingly fresh for the age and with a clear chilli catch, unlike the 18yo, complex and very tasty, with 4 gtt water it opens up more flavors.

A great part. Very noble and extremely recognizable as Talisker whisky.
    • Nose
      90 90
Spicy and sweet, delicate smoke, oak spice, dry wood fire, typical pepper notes, Christmas cookies
    • Taste
      90 90
Spicy, sweet start, very creamy, again pepper and gingerbread, the oak spice creates a nice warmth
    • Finish
      89 89
Creamy and sweet on the palate, spicy and peppery on the tongue, the warmth lasts for ages

Smell: The aroma is concentrated, the rich salty and citrus flavors were previously recognized. The middle section bursts out a huge amount of orange jam, like the salted pineapple in the roadside stall when I was young. It is rich and sweet, rich in layers, and the end of the song changes suddenly. The melody of new leather, wooden boxes and tobacco leaves. energetic

Drink: This is the sexiest 45.8 tesca I have ever drunk. You can do whatever you want. Take a bite of flesh, take a mouthful of blush, sip a mouthful of warmth, sweaty, sweet and charming

    Feeling: You fine taste...
